Homemade Bread Machine Bread Recipe

Way back when I started the site I shared how I was giddy over making bread out of the bread machine we got for a wedding gift. I hadn't used the bread machine ever (and we had been married around 10 years at that time)! Having made many batches of homemade bread with that bread machine now (best gift ever in hindsight), I can tell you it's super easy to make. You will want to have a few bread machine mixes on hand so you can have fresh homemade bread whenever the craving hits!

And, truly, few things can beat the smell of fresh bread baking as it drifts throughout your house, right?

If you have a bread machine and can take a little time, I would encourage you to pre-make your own homemade bread machine mixes. You can have fresh baked bread for months! Just pop the mix in your machine, add a few wet ingredients and go about the rest of your day while it is prepared start to finish. Given how things are changing all the time, my bread machine is one of those kitchen appliances that I'm glad I didn't get rid of!

If you don't already have one, here are a few great options for bread machines:

Also consider checking the local Goodwill or second hand store to see if you can find one even cheaper!

Homemade Bread Machine Mix Ingredients

  • 3 cups, Bread Flour
  • 2 Tbsp, Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp, Dry Milk
  • 1 ½ tsp, Salt
  • 1 packet or 1 ½ tsp, Dry Active Yeast (keep separate until preparing)
  • 1 ¼ cups, Warm Water (add for preparation)
  • 1 Tbsp, Vegetable Oil (add for preparation)

Homemade Bread Machine Mix Directions

  1. In a large bowl combine the first 4 ingredients until well combined. Place in an airtight container or storage bag. Place yeast packet onto flour mixture container with a small piece of tape to keep them together.
  2. When you are ready to prepare your bread, pour water and oil into bread machine, next pour in contents of flour mixture, and top with yeast. Press White-Light Crust option on your bread machine and when bread is done remove from pan and allow to cool for 1 hour before slicing (if you can resist).

Once you start baking your own bread this way it is addicting! You could also package this up in a mason jar and gift it for a housewarming or any occasion in a basket with a pretty dish towel and a jar of jam or preserves.

This is a great idea! Would you be able to use this mix for making Parmesan bread, or pepperoni? I will check the ingredients to see if this would work, I love my bread machine, but it is the measuring, and utensils that make the mess. Thank you, thank you.
