A stockpiling reminder for all as we use our last roll of toilet paper…
Yes, I am down to the last roll of toilet paper in our home. I'm such a shame to the couponer's race, I know! But here's the thing…
I haven't seen a stockpile price I'm satisfied with recently.
Toilet paper is one of those things most American use regularly. In watching several travel shows recently (anyone else watch “An Idiot Abroad”?), I realize that not all of the world considers toilet paper a necessity which kinda grosses me out. In the Deckard household it is (and I'm guessing it is with your household too). So, what does my scant toilet paper supply tell you about Stockpiling 101:
- Wait for the sale to come at the rock bottom price.
- Buy enough at that price to get you through the next sales cycle.
- If you are unsure of when the next sales cycle will occur, start keeping a price book to understand.
- Most sales cycle through every 6-12 weeks.
Now, if you don't see the desired stockpile price and you have a need, buy what you need to tide you over. Use a coupon for it as I'm sure you'll find many valuable coupons to use matched with a sale, but not the stockpile sale you're waiting for.
My stockpile price for toilet paper is $0.25 per roll. So that means the sales recently at $0.36 a roll isn't a price that appeals to my budget. But I will buy it at this price because, like I said, we need toilet paper.
Toilet paper is one of those things I don't want to get down to the last roll to purchase. Now I have to run out and grab more when I've already hit the store twice this week. Going every 2-3 weeks now means this trip is a waste of gas and I'm paying more for the toilet paper too. However, it is highly necessary as a family of 5. I mean what is the alternative? Wait, don't tell me that!
Was is one of your necessities that you can't run out of?
What is your stockpile price for that item?
Check out the Seedling Planter tutorial from Girl in Studio which the image above was taken from! We also have a good tutorial on how to make a vegetable planter with eggshells and some tips on planting a garden.
My other necessity would be the dish and laundry soaps…..LOL ~ Loved your post, I can see myself doing the same thing :-)
But you know…..the Charmin Basic at Staples for $4.99 is a realllllly good stock up price for 16 rolls of toilet paper and then add the 15% off coupon making it $4.24……so get to stocking up Andrea :-)
I was so glad to see the Staples toilet paper sale, too. I got as much as I could, knowing that the 16 double rolls really was 32 single rolls for 12 cents each. Alas, that kind of sale is rare. Who’d of thought Staples would be a good place to get toilet paper? Maybe we need to think outside the box to get good deals on T.P.!
I have to laugh, because when we moved to France TP was a serious case of culture shock. So much so that when my mom and grandmother came to visit, they each left with several “samples rolls” to show folks back home. LOL!! Then, when we arrived in central Africa, it was just flat-out laughable. That said, take heart in knowing that we didn’t have to get a Sears & Roebuck catalog shipped to us!
My rock bottom stock-up price is $0.20/roll. But, keep in mind that I count a double roll as 2 when I calculate – otherwise it’s like comparing apples and duck eggs. The only similarity is that they’re round.
My other can’t-do-withouts are milk and flour since I cook from scratch so much. I’ve learned to keep a box of powdered milk and an extra bag of flour on hand at *all* times. These are multi-tasking life-savers… milk for cooking/drinking when my 7yo empties the gallon, bread, rolls, baked goods, etc. Like duct tape, inner tubes and a machete in Africa, milk and flour can fix nearly any (kitchen) situation in which I find myself! But, since they’re never really on sale, I just make sure I grab some at Aldi when I’m anywhere near low.
Good luck on getting through this crisis!
Annie, so you have been in the culture where it’s optional – HAHA!! You know, I thought about the double roll/single roll dilemma and I just pay $0.25 whatever the size – I don’t ration the kids’ square usage..teehee.
We also have those essentials on hand always. I’m lucky to have a friend who will grind wheat berries so I get fresh wheat flour at the fraction of the cost. I usually get the rest of my necessities at Aldi like you. I’ve often wondered about dry milk powder. I’ve read that it’s a saver to use as substitution for regular milk. Do you do that at all?
And you sound like a good lady to have around with duct tape and a machete on hand!
Crack me up!!! I am so there with you sister! When I started this whole couponing thing 3 years ago I quickly learned that TP was my own personal biggie/must have item! Now it is not uncommon for me (with 5 at home still) to buy 6-10 packages when on sale. Hit a mega great deal a month ago when the Mgr at Meijer allowed me to get the 12 double rolls of Cottonelle for 1/2 priced, coupled with my $.50/1 printable and then hit mega savings when I got a $3 Catalina….essentially paying only $1 per package….total bummer I only had coupons for 6:) Now I am stressing as I have only two of those left….so funny!!!!
Jennifer, I have a friend who got that Cottonelle deal too! I tell ya, there isn’t much else that won’t get me excited like some cheap TP! LOL
Where did you find the adorable picture of the sprout in the cardboard roll and did it come with directions on how to fold it like that? If so, please tell me where I can find that? Thank you!
We also grind all our wheat from scratch. Just make sure you’re storing it in the freezer to preserve it’s nutrition or you’ll lose all of it in as little as 72 hours or less.
Blessings!
Thanks for the information on here. I’m just getting started on reading blogs (Annie, I found you through a link on Pinterest). I hope to have my own blog some day (when I figure it out!!).
Anyone have a problem with the toilet paper roll growing mold on the outside? It’s only been two weeks.
I’m trying to follow the link to the TP roll planters – it’s broken. . .
