Freezing Foods and Leftovers
The following Everyday Savings Tip comes from, Darlene:
You can make your own spaghetti sauce for about 1/4 of the cost of jar sauces. I purchase a large 10 ounce can of crushed tomatoes (you could use fresh). Add seasoning like onion, garlic, oregano, parsley, basil, salt and pepper. You can leave out the salt if you want a low sodium sauce, as the tomatoes in a can usually have enough salt in them.
When the sauce is cooled, place into freezer bags, label and date. When you are ready to have spaghetti, just take it out of the freezer like you would a jar of sauce.
I also freeze all of my leftovers. I make dishes special to freeze, like soups, stews, spaghetti sauce, and bread. When freezing, I put the leftovers in a freezer bag or container, label and date it. Freezer bags tend to take up less space in the freezer and can be easily stacked.
