5 Easy and Inexpensive Camping Meals
Camping meals don’t need to be a 5-course dinner. When you are camping with your family you want to be able to enjoy the great outdoors and spend time with your family, not over the stove. Here are some easy and inexpensive meals that you can make the next time you head out camping.
Fun Foil Packets
This is something we used to do when we camped as I was growing up. My best friend and I still talk about the foil dinners we enjoyed.
Dice up potatoes, summer squash, carrots, or any veggies you have on hand along with some pieces of sausage. Cook over the campfire in pouches made with tin foil until sausage is cooked through. You can add a little butter or olive oil to each packet as well to help it cook better.
Good Ole' Hot Dogs and Burgers
Nothing says camping like a hot dog cooked right over the open flame. You can also make hamburgers by placing a piece of foil over the campfire grate and frying the hamburgers on that. Don't forget the buns!
Simple Soup
Prepare your family’s favorite soup ahead of time and bring it along, fully cooked, in a container. Also make sure to bring a campfire-friendly pot so you can cook it over the open flames to heat it up when you are ready to eat.
Breakfast for Supper
Bring along a frying pan to make some great breakfast for supper! You can even crack and scramble the eggs ahead of time (just combine all the eggs in a container before you leave). Place the frying pan on a piece of foil on the campfire grate and cook the eggs!
Prepare some bacon or sausage right on the foil too. For pancakes you will want to bring along some kind of griddle as they will stick to the foil.
Kabobs
Another easy supper to make over the campfire is kabobs. Simply stick cut pieces of meats and veggies on your firs roasting sticks and cook over the fire until the meat is cooked through. Prepare it at home before you leave to save time!
