Homemade Baking Mix

Homemade Baking Mix Recipe

Make your own baking mix that works just like store bought with very little effort. Besides keeping unnecessary ingredients out of your pantry you will keep dollars in your pocket!

Homemade Baking Mix Ingredients

  • 10 cups, All-Purpose Flour
  • ½ cup, Baking Powder
  • 4 Tbsp, Sugar
  • 2 tsp, Salt
  • 1 cup, Butter (melted)

Homemade Baking Mix Directions

  1. In a large bowl blend dry ingredients. I like to use a whisk to stir, it blends well and sort of “sifts” the ingredients.
  2. Evenly distribute butter over flour mixture. Whisk well for several minutes until everything in bowl is evenly combined.
  3. Use baking mix the same way you would store bought: in biscuits, for pancakes, waffles, or breading.
  4. Store in an airtight container for 6 weeks, or in refrigerator.

You can tweak the recipe to your liking, leave out sugar if you wish. Swap out some of the white flour for whole wheat. You could also use coconut oil in place of the butter.

Here are a couple basic recipes for using baking mix:

Drop Biscuits

Mix 1/3 cup of milk with 1 cup of baking mix. Bake at 450° for 10-12 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet. Add garlic and herbs for a delicious variation.

Pancakes

Mix 2 cups of mix with 2 eggs and 1 cup of milk. Cook in pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray over medium heat. Try these with blueberries or chocolate chips mixed in.

Cost Breakdown

A 40-ounce box (9.5 cups) of Bisquick runs about $4, making it $0.42 a cup. This homemade recipe makes about 10.5 cups and cost around $2 per batch, making it only $0.20 per cup.
