Homemade Salsa Recipe
If you have never had fresh made salsa, you are definitely missing out! There is something so delicious and bright about just chopped veggies that you cant buy from the grocery store. The best part about making it yourself is that you can skip the preservatives and additives that are not necessary in your salsa, and customize everything else to your liking; make it smooth or chunky, add extra heat, a touch more sweetness, or sub parsley for cilantro if you don't care for the taste.
Homemade Salsa Ingredients
- 2 whole, Tomatoes
- 1/3 cup, Onion
- 1 Jalapeno
- 1 clove, Garlic
- ½ cup, Cilantro
- 1 tsp, Lime Juice
- ½ tsp, Sugar
- ¼ tsp, Cumin
- Salt and Pepper (to taste)
Homemade Salsa Directions
- Slice the jalapeno down the middle removing all the seeds as this is where the majority of the heat is (if you want to leave a little in for heat, go ahead). Slice them into thin strips about 1/4” wide and dice the strips in the opposite direction. We are going to put everything into the processor so this can be a rough chop.
- Dice onion, and garlic. Finely chop cilantro.
- Now put your tomatoes in your food chopper, processor, or blender and pulse until you have reached your desired consistency. You can also chop by hand.
- Stir remaining ingredients together until well combined, store in an airtight container, and refrigerate.
The cost for a jar of salsa at the grocery store is anywhere from $3-$5 per jar. Making it yourself falls around the same price range since the ingredients cost around $4 (less if you have a garden), but the jar was larger than the store bought. The amazing taste of fresh salsa is worth the little bit of effort!
