Take Advantage of Grocery Store Markdowns
The following Best Savings Tip comes from reader, Rachel:
I've been able to save money on grocery store items by checking the “markdown” rack at the grocery store. My favorite one is Meijer's bakery rack. They have cute little tags that say “Oops, we baked too much.” I can always find loaves of bread, donuts or other baked goods for around 40% off the original price. I have found the key is to go in the evening. That's when my store seems to mark everything down and you have the best selection.
Also, I always try to quickly walk through the baby aisles. Meijer especially always seems to have clearance items stashed in random places in the baby section. The other day, I was able to get Gerber Organic rice cereal for $1.77 a box (compared to $3.29) and Gerber baby food for $0.39/jar (compared to $0.79/jar). None of it was expired; I think the packaging had just changed and they were trying to get rid of the old packaging.
