Save Money and Sanity by Shopping Without Kids
The following Best Savings Tip comes from reader, Ruthann:
When I'm out shopping I see mothers taking the kids along. If possible, leave them at home and save money and your sanity. You will have fewer “I wants” and you won't have to feel guilty for saying no. Even if you have to hire a sitter you'll frequently save more than the fees. Even better, swap off with one of your friends with children. Every mother deserves a break at the shopping mall.

I know it's not possible for everyone but I do try to shop without the kids as much as I can. When I do, I can get in and out of the store much quicker. A visit to Meijer a few weeks ago led to Andon wanting multiple items in the clearance aisle. I may have been able to find a few good bargains but he was preoccupied with the Toy Story thermos that he felt he needed. I'm sure we all have been there!

Not to “paint them with a wide brush”, but in most cases, leave the mister home, too. Same m.o. as the kids, but it’s not about TS3 thermoses (my husband is gaga over produce – admirable, but it’s usually not over in-season or on sale fruits & veggies. Budget Buster!
Emily, that is SO true! I’d rather leave my DH at home versus the kids. He acts like he’s in a candy store with all the stuff. I find myself saying the same things to him sometimes, “No, we don’t have that on the list so I’m sorry but we can’t get it today.” Of course, it’s hard to enforce that when he has his own cash but still. I totally agree!
