Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Where are my fellow “dog moms”? We joke with our oldest son that when he went away to college he was replaced with a redhead – her name is Rosie!

Sometimes it feels like Rosie also replaces ME! She was truly pushing me out of the picture so she could have him all to herself. That song, “I could still your man if I want to” is her motto in our house! She gets all the passes though because even though she's not trained formally as a therapy dog, her intuition is spot on for when anyone in our family is having a rough day. We really don't deserve dogs, do we?

During his time at college, we needed a friend for our Rosie so we got the world's most cuddly furball, Hazel. She's part human, part-cat and full-blown cuddle monster. You know how some dogs have what seems like a human face – that's our Hazel! It's like you can see into her soul. She's very needy if she doesn't get her daily dose of cuddles, which will never be near enough for her so she's wanting all the cuddles ALL the time! She can get comfy in ANY spot anywhere in our home as you can see in the picture with me here.

These two doodettes rule this house AND our hearts! Naturally, we want to continue to spoil them since they give so much to our family. As new dog parents we were a little “extra” and bought the raw, organic food and treats. During his college time, our son also joked that the dogs were eating better than he was with his daily ramen. I mean, he wasn't completely wrong! :D

Hazel ended up getting bladder stones and needed surgery, we had to start a prescription diet for them and are very selective about what type of treats they have now. Making them homemade treats like these easy homemade dog treats is a no brainer, and they absolutely LOVE them! Plus it's great because we always have all the ingredients on hand and can whip them up quickly.

What ingredients are Safe to Make Dog Treats?

This recipe contains ingredients that are completely safe for your furbabies! It's healthy for their coats too. Just make sure you check the ingredients on the peanut butter and ensure it doesn't have any Xylitol since that is toxic for animals.

The oats are also a great carb alternative for dogs if they have any allergies to wheat or grains.

• 3 cups Oats
• 3 ripe Bananas
• 1 cup Peanut Butter (dog safe)
• Dog Biscuit Pan

You can also use pumpkin puree or smashed sweet potatoes in the place of bananas. I'm sure your dogs won't complain one bit!

Peanut butter Homemade Dog Treats

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a food processor, pulse your Oats until they are a powder like consistency.
3. Add the Banana and Peanut Butter to a large mixing bowl and use a hand mixer to mix together.
4. Mix in the powdered Oats.
5. Use your hands and press small pieces of the dough in your bone pan.
6. Once the pan is full, bake for 10 minutes, let cool and give one to your dog for a treat.

What Kind of Flour should I use for Dog Treats?

As I mentioned above, all the ingredients in this recipe are safe for dogs but if your dog has any allergies then here are a few substitutions for the oats! Try to stay away from all-purpose flour though because there's no nutritional value in that type of flour (for our dogs or us, truly). Consider using whole wheat flour if they don't have any allergies, oat flour, almond flour or even coconut flour. The ingredient substitution will be 1:1.
