Get Started with Essential Oils: How to Use and Where to Buy
It's been nearly a year since I started using essential oils. Since I've personally had enough time to use the oils and realize some benefits, I wanted to share the information for those who have questions. While this isn't all-inclusive about essential oils or the Young Living brand, it's a good start to help you understand my reasons for using oils.
Why I'm Using Essential Oils
A few friends were using them and it wasn't until I spoke to my Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) that I was ok with starting myself. When I initially started researching essential oils, I wanted to find oils to help me with a few areas, including:
- Sleeping better.
- Helping to calm my anxiety.
- Assisting with balancing hormones.
- Act as an ingredient for cleaning recipes.
Eventually I will share with all of you about the health issues I've been dealing with for the past 2 years. They are a doozy! Since I've incorporated essential oils in our family's health and wellness regime, I have several more oils that we use for many other things.
Why Young Living Essential Oils
When I decided what brand to use, I went with Young Living because a lot of acquaintances I knew were using them with success. I've learned more about the company and their quality standards since then and I'm glad I chose Young Living over the other brands available.
Young Living sets the standard for purity and authenticity when it comes to essential oils, right down to the seeds they use to the way they cultivate their farms. They carefully monitor every step of their essential oil production on their own farms from beginning to end, producing the absolute highest possible therapeutic value for every essential oil they create using first distillations only.
These are not the same types of oils that you find at your local retail store. There are 4 grades of essential oils, and Young Living produces the absolute best with a grade “A” being pure, therapeutic and of superior quality.
How to Get Started Using Essential Oils
You can purchase Young Living essential oils in one of two ways:
- Retail Customer
Retail customers pay full price for products with no kits to buy. - Wholesale Member
Wholesale members get a 24% discount off retail price for every Young Living product plus the opportunity to earn free oils and credits with bonuses every month. There are no strings attached to becoming a wholesale member over a retail member.
Selecting a Starter Kit
A big reason I chose Young Living is because they have several starter kit options to choose from so you can try various oils at a great price. Since I really wanted a diffuser, I ultimately chose the Premium Starter Kit as it is the best overall value. As I mentioned above, the kits are only available as a Wholesale Member (along with the discounts on products).
A brief review about the diffuser. When we moved into our new home, we needed some MAJOR air refreshening. Most candles and sprays give me a headache so I wanted to try diffusing with oils to rid the rooms of the nasty smells and germs. I'm happy to say that running a diffuser nonstop for only a few days straight got rid of old pet smells as well as remaining wood burning smells from a wood burning stove and old chimney. The prior owner lived in our home for over 25 years so it was amazing that it only took 4 days! By the way, I used a combination of Purification and Lemon during this de-smellification.
Signing Up As A Young Living Wholesale Member
1. Click over to the Young Living sign-up page.
2. Where it says “Sign Up As” select “Young Living Wholesale Member” (The ‘Enroller ID’ and ‘Sponsor ID’ boxes should already be filled in for you but it should be 1751813 to fall under me and the groups I can add you into.)
3. Fill out your name, billing address, shipping address, and other important contact info.
The reason you are asked to list your social security number is for tax purposes. If you decide to create a business selling Young Living products, you will receive a 1099 form in the mail for earnings over $600, as is required by law.
If you do not feel comfortable putting in your social security number, you can get an EIN from the IRS in just a few seconds here and use that number instead (the IRS just needs to be able to connect some number with you for tax purposes). Young Living will never share this info with anyone.
4. Create Username, Password, and Pin. Creating your username, password, and pin will allow you to log in to your account and order your oils, check old orders, track current orders, and more.
5. Agree to Terms & Conditions.
6. Select your enrollment order. This is where you can specify which Premium Starter Kit you would like. You must sign up with a kit to become a Wholesale Member. To maintain your 24% discount going forward, you only need to spend 50PV ($50) each subsequent year with Young Living on any product in their store. Trust me, that is easy to do!
7. Set up your optional Essential Rewards Program.
This is a rewards program you can opt into to start earning money back to help pay for your oils. If you don’t wish to set this up at this time, you can skip this step by selecting “No, thank you. I plan on enrolling in the Essential Rewards Program later.” Additionally, buying one of the Essential Rewards (ER) kits is not a requirement to sign up as a Wholesale Member!
8. Confirm your enrollment information. Be sure everything’s correct before proceeding.
9. Add any additional products to your order. Is there anything else you’d like to add to your initial kit order? Now’s the time to add those products to your order before you finalize.
10. Proceed to checkout and complete your enrollment. Once completed, you will receive your Member ID number. We recommend you keep this number written or saved somewhere for your records. Your Member ID is needed when sponsoring new members, and can also be used in place of your username.
11. Be sure to confirm your order has processed. I’ve had a few wholesale members miss this step and not fully process their orders. Be sure your order is confirmed and that you receive an email saying your order has been received!
12. Bookmark this page! https://youngliving.com/vo/ This is where you will log into your back office, order products, update your personal info, download important member tools, and set up and edit your essential rewards.
Earn Rewards with the Essential Rewards Program
As I mentioned above in Step #7, participating in the Essential Rewards program is NOT required but it IS especially nice! I did NOT sign up for Essential Rewards until I was a member for about 3 months. I wanted to try the oils to see how well they worked and determine if I would continue to use them. Once I knew that they were working for our family, I enrolled in the Essential Rewards program.
In a nutshell, you can earn points on your purchases each month. Each product has a point value (PV) attached to it. Those PV's can be used to purchase additional products. So, if you know you will be buying or trying new oils each month, it's a nice benefit to take advantage of.
You can also earn additional BONUS oils with various purchase levels each month. There are typically different bonuses offered each month with different PV required. These are also completely optional. I have personally received several monthly bonuses because I have spent the minimum of 190PV each month.
For example, when you order the Premium Starter Kit (from step 6 above), you will automatically have 100 points or PV and will just need 90 more points to get this month’s bonus oils. Here is an example of how you can reach those 90 extra points with a few of my favorite products:
(1) Thieves Oil 15ml: 33.75 points (swiss army knife for cleaning)
(1) Frankincense Oil 5ml: 29 points (great for skincare regime)
(1) Tangerine Oil 15ml: 11 points (fantastic in water)
(1) Cedarwood Oil 15ml: 11.25 points (helps with sleeping)
Ordering the above additional items will bring your points up to 190 exactly and will qualify you to receive the bonus this month! Again, this step is totally optional. The free oil will automatically be added to your order upon checkout. You do not need to add them to your cart. If you want to earn the next level bonuses, you will need to order 250PV in products.

How do I order one or more Young Living Oils?
You can order directly from my Young Living site. Click on “Product Line” on the left, and either navigate using the categories on top or type what product you’re looking for in the search field. Type in the quantity, hit “Add to Cart” and, when finished shopping, click “Check out” and follow the on screen instructions.
Why do I need an account with Young Living?
Young Living simply wants you to be able to have access to someone who can teach you how to use the oils properly. By signing up as a customer with my enroller ID (1751813), you’re just becoming my customer so I can be the one to help you now and in the future with any questions about essential oils you may have.
Should I become an Young Living Wholesale Member instead of a Retail Customer?
As a Retail Customer, you pay full retail price. As a Wholesale Member, you get the wholesale pricing of 24% off retail price. In addition, should you decide to share the oils with your friends and family, and should they sign-up with you to purchase from you, as a Wholesale Member, you could earn commissions and participate in promotions to get free oils. I don’t really want to sell essential oils. Do I have to sell Young Living products to be a Wholesale Member?
Absolutely NOT! Since there is no monthly order requirement you can simply just order whenever you and your family need it.
There is no requirement to have a business. In fact, I didn't want to promote them as a distributor myself until now. Since I have so many people who ask me about them, I figured why not get a financial benefit from something you personally enjoy using!
Is there a monthly order minimum?
No. You do not have to order monthly in order to benefit from being a Wholesale Member.
Is there a yearly membership fee? Or any hidden costs?
No, there is no yearly membership fee for any of the customer/member options.
However, as a Wholesale Member/Distributor, there is a one-time purchase of one of the starter kits to get started and attain the wholesale pricing. Also, you must purchase 50PV($50 worth) in product a year to remain an “active” Wholesale Member/Distributor. Should you become inactive, you can place a 50PV order anytime to reactivate.
Any prices you see are the prices, that’s it. No hidden costs or charges anywhere, just the product price, shipping, and tax. There are never any additional charges or hidden charges ever.
