A colleague of mine recently shared this savings tip with me, and we plan to try it this summer. He told me that he and his wife sleep in the basement in the summer to avoid turning on the air conditioner. He says it has saved them several hundred dollars.

4. Think small. Instead of central air conditioning go for one room with a window air conditioning unit which requires much less energy
