Peppermint Hot Chocolate Mix in a Jar

‘Tis the season of peppermint!! This homemade peppermint hot chocolate mix recipe is an oldie but goodie! We've made this multiple times over the years and our boys love it. If you're making a batch to keep at home, just take a scoop of the dry mix and add hot water or warm milk and enjoy!

This makes a great gift for teachers, mail carriers or co-workers since it's assembled in a jar. It's easy to make multiple batches at once to save on time. Stick the printable label on each jar and you have your gifts for several people all finished!

Add a few candy canes, peppermint sticks or some homemade marshmallows when you're gifting so they have even more yummy hot chocolate toppings to use when they're enjoying their hot cocoa!

Homemade Peppermint Hot Chocolate Mix

  • 1/2 cup, Powdered Milk
  • 1/2 cup, Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1/2 cup, Sugar
  • 1/8 tsp, Salt
  • 1/4 cu,p Chocolate Chips
  • 1/4 cup, Candy Canes (about 3 and crushed)
  • 1/4 cup, Mini Marshmallows

How to Make Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

This recipe is for a peppermint flavored hot chocolate, but you can easily add any other type of candy or flavoring in the layering for other types of mixes too!

  1. If you need to crush the peppermints, throw them in the food processor for a quick chop.
  2. To make the assembly go quickly, have the ingredients in their respective containers OR in a bowl so you can easily scoop the mixes in each jar.
  3. Layer everything in order as shown in the ingredients list above, pressing firmly after each layer.
  4. Seal with lid, label and decorate.

How Long will a Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix Last?

You will want to store this in an airtight container if it's not mixed up in a jar. If you're storing in a large container it doesn't have to be layered, that's really more for making it look pretty if it's in the glass jar. The mix should last up to 6 months.
