Bulk Up Meat with Veggies and Save More

A yummy looking picture from the garden of $5 Dinners.

The following Best Savings Tip comes from reader, Donna:

I always add diced, lightly sauteed veggies (zucchini, bell pepper, mushrooms, yellow summer squash, onions, spinach, etc.) to my chili, spaghetti meat sauce, and taco filling. Even if they're not in season or on sale, it helps me stretch my money AND the ground meat quite a bit farther. :)

Awesome bonus: a huge increase of healthy veggies in my family's diet! When my youngest son was just getting used to table foods, I simply diced the veggies very finely and sauteed them till very tender. This approach would also help with veggie-averse kids (and husbands!) as you help them learn how delicious veggies can be! ;)
