Lower Your Gas and Electric Bill

The following Everyday Savings Tip comes from, Jamie:

We have always shut off our gas in May of each year and can usually get through part of October before turning it back on. Our water heater is an electric water heater so during the summer we have no need for gas.

The gas and electric company charges a $30 fee just to have gas turned on each month whether it is used or not. This ends up being a nice $120 or more savings each year.

  1. Does the gas company come out and do this or do you do it yourselves? If the gas company has to come out, do they charge you a fee? We only have to pay $12/mth for having gas on, but it drives me crazy all the same for 6 months of not using it.

    1. Kara, my guess is it depends on your area. I would give them a quick call to ask about it. With the savings potential, it is definitely worth the call IMO!
