Freeze the Garbage

The following Everyday Savings Tip comes from, Beth:

I don't have a garage, so when the garbage is full and ready to go out, it has to sit outside until garbage day with no protection from the animals that could get into it. This is especially a problem during the warmer months.

Until garbage day, I take food scraps from cooking and/or from the dinner plates and put them into a plastic bag and just put it into the freezer. The food doesn't stink up my kitchen and I don't have to worry about animals getting into it during the week. It has worked for me!

  1. It’s a good thing I have a garbage disposal for all those food scraps because my freezer is already full to bursting! What a great solution for families who do not have one though!

  2. I do the freezer gabage on some stuff too, like steak bones, and shrimp shells, and “fat” from meats because I don’t want to attract animals to the garage (mice) nor do I want to stink up the house. My brother led me to this tip years ago.
