Do You Ever Feel Overwhelmed?

I mean, I'm overwhelmed kinda on a daily basis. The kiddos went back to school on Wednesday (the boys with their cousin, Schyler). I'm finishing up a few projects, and anticipating starting a few more. I finally have time to focus on the nitty gritty with our finances.

Yes, we paid off our consumer debt. I remember very vividly that entire process was completely overwhelming to say the least. If you've never been in that position, I am pretty sure you can't understand the stress and pressure to take on something like that (especially as big as ours was).

Coming up, we have some hefty financial goals, not to mention continuing paying on the other debt we have. Hubs needs a new (to us) vehicle (seriously, he has duct tape on his tail light – no joke). We want to pay cash for a Disney Vacation next year (it seems everyone is saving for Disney, huh). We have another big thing we need to save for. I would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't overwhelmed at how we're going to make it all happen (and praying that his vehicle doesn't fall apart before we have the cash to get a replacement).

It all makes me anxious. I'm a planner, possibly even a bit control freak-ish. But, you know with life there is nothing you can control except yourself (Hubs and BFF just reminded me this of that very thing this week). So, having a plan just helps with the anxiety and overwhelming circumstances. I can then possibly “eat” that elephant one bite at a time. But, it's not easy. Nothing in life ever really is.

There is a scripture, my favorite one actually. It's Psalm 139 (everyone loves a good Psalm, right). Well, the last part of the Psalm is what I meditate on when I feel anxious, unsure and just sucked in by life. It's below. And, verse 24 is what I pray the Lord will show me each day (no one is perfect, but despite my imperfections I really do want to be more like Jesus).

Do you ever have those days? The things of life just make you feel overwhelmed, anxious or just tired of what “the world” throws at you? How do you get through it?

  1. You wrote this for me…clearly…just for me =) Planners that you and I are, its never easy to let go and take care of whats in front of us, what we can, when we worry about what we know if coming. Because what about what we don’t know that will completely surprise us? That’s where God is so good to reveal His love for and faith in us to turn to Him, be small in His arms, and let Him work through us for all things good in His glory. We just have to yield…so compeletly not my nature. Thank you for this today Andrea…God’s good timing =)

  2. thanks for sharing… psalms are always good for reminding us to take the moment in. so are bumper stickers. the other day i was entirely too anxious for anyone (especially one expecting a child) and got behind a car with a sticker that said, “just breathe”… i chuckled and did just as it suggested, laughing at how simple and involuntary a gesture and yet, how overlooked in times of stress and fatigue.
so, dive into the word, don’t be overshadowed by expectations of what you want to see in yourself and your life, and remember to breathe!

  3. Definitely can relate to the overwhelmed feeling with leaving for Ethiopia next week, finishing up our adoption paperwork before we go, and planning for the blog to run itself while I’m gone. Did I mention packing, leaving the boys for 10 days, and trying to get my house in order.

It seems like when I get overwhelmed that my brain leaves the building and I can’t accomplish anything. Call it overwhelmed ADD.

    So I’ve been cleaning because it’s something that I can control. {Taking a few deep breaths}

  4. How did you know I was having a bad morning? Haha. Thanks Andrea! I read your post, completely relate and for the last 5 or so minutes just repeated that scripture over and over until the feeling went away. Thank you and good luck on your new projects and reaching your goal(s)!

  5. Totally what I needed to read this morning! Completely feeling overwhelmed recently and needed to be reminded that I need to place it in our CREATOR’S hands and not mine. Because He is the only one that can make it all work out!

  6. Of course! I sometimes feel as if I live life from crisis to crisis. But I know that I have it lucky compared to many so I try to focus on that.

And not to be pushy or anything, but my husband runs a small used car dealership just in Berea, KY, just a few hours away from you. He may be able to help you out on the car thing. He’s got a lot lower prices than the other dealerships around here at least. We don’t have a big glass building that we have to pay rent on each month, LOL. E-mail me if you’re interested.

  7. You hit the nail on the head. Overwhelmed? More than you can imagine at this point. I’m just looking for direction.

Oh my….this post is so what I needed. I am struggling with many challenges dealing with medical, financial, and other problems. It is so very difficult, but I am trying to find my way. Thank you for this post.

  9. I feel overwhelmed a lot. My husband out of work, starting to homeschool my son on a shoestring budget, trying to make friends,my mom having health problems, teaching children’s church and filling in for SBS. Not to mention the day to day stuff like how do people spend time with their children and have a clean house? Etc,etc, etc. Giving it to the Lord each and every day-no make that minute is the only way I make it through. Seeing how the Lord is faithful to provide and building my trust in Him – that’s how I get through the day with joy!

  10. It is so strange to me still how God draws me to your blog when I am going through my toughest trials in life. Needless to say you’ve always found the perfect message for the situation I’m going through. I’m shamed to say I’m not as familiar with scripture as I should be, as I spent so long running from and angry at God for various reasons. I can only beg forgiveness and learn from my mistakes. Thank you for helping the learning easier!

  11. Hey, don’t worry look at all you do have. A beautiful family and it sounds like you put God before money. So many people worry about things instead of people. I try to focus on God instead of me driving my old car. ( I can relate to your husband’s car and the duct tape thing) I know when the time is right I will get what I need. Praise God my car is still running, because I have to do the pick up at my son’s high school. Keep praying!!!

  12. Thank you!! Sometimes we forget that others may have the same struggles we are going through! I appreciate you sharing this!!
