Dayton Free Weekend Events | June 18-19

Here are some free things to do this weekend around town!

National Museum of the Air Force: Family Day, June 18 @9am-3:30pm

Come out to the Air Force to learn all about the International Space Station.  There will be many hands on activities and demonstrations for the entire family.

You will even have the opportunity to meet Mike Foreman, a real life astronaut from 1:30pm-3:30pm.  Free tickets will be available on Saturday on a first- come first-serve basis.  Some events planned for the day include:

  • Activities relating to living and working in space
  • Principles of spaceflight and astronaut training
  • Build an “Intercommunity Space Station”

Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark: Bike Rodeo, June 18 @9am-1pm

Grab the Kids and their bikes and head down to Wegerzyn Gardens for the Bike Rodeo.  They will learn bike safety and can go through a bike obstacle course is geared to learn the rules of the road in a safe environment.

This is a Free event but you will need to register your kids between the ages 3-15 years.  Kids can receive a free bike helmet and proper fitting while supplies last.  While you are there, bring a picnic lunch and visit the Children's Discovery Garden!

Fairborn Heritage Days, June 18 @10am-10pm

Come out to Fairborn and celebrate the pioneer spirit at their Heritage festival.  They will have live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, children's games, and historical presentations.

They will also have an ice cream social with Young's Jersey Dairy Ice Cream for a $1.25 per scoop and includes toppings. They will also have a  hot air balloon launch at 7pm.  For more information for all the events scheduled visit their website.

Chase Background on Broadway: The Lion King, June 18 @1pm

A lot of buzz is going around town for the Broadway Show, Lion King, at the Schuster Center.  You can come down and learn all about the award-winning musical.  The tickets are free but you must register online or call 937/228-7591

Michael's: Father's Day Make-It Take-It Keychain, June 18 @12pm

Come out to this Free Make-It Take-It and create a Key Chain for Dad.  The key chain looks like it will have a heart on it made from two thumbprints and it is really cute.  This is while supplies last and for kids ages 3 and up.

Home Depot Kids Workshop: Lil Toolbox, June 18 @10am

Bring the kids out to make a Lil Toolbox at your local Home Depot Stores. This would make a great gift for Dad to carry his tools in for small jobs!

You do not need to register but you may want to get there early to ensure you get a kit.  In addition to the kit, each child will receive the a kid-sized apron, and an achievement pin.

The Greene: Family Movie Night, June 19 @9pm

Finish up the Father's Day by taking the family to the Greene for Family Movie Night!  You can watch Megamind on Town Square and it will begin at dusk.  So grab some blankets and snacks which should be great time!  Hoping for no rain!!
