Instead of having to encourage my kids read, I have kids who read all the time. Sometimes it's even a challenge to make them put a book down.
That said the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County's Summer Reading Program, Team Read, looks pretty exciting to us! The kickoff is today and the program runs through 7/31/11. What I like most about this program (besides the great prizes of course) is that it is all tracked online. No papers for me to keep track of and have to turn in.
Register for Team Read online or sign up at any Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County branch. Then login to track your books/minutes read. You don't need to be a Hamilton County resident or have a library card to participate.
Team Read is available for preschoolers, kid, teens and even adults. Some pretty great prizes are available to win including books, toys, ear buds, flash drives and entries to grand prize drawings for Reds tickets and Coney Island passes. The Big prize goes to the child, teen and adult who reads the most at each location ~ a Nook Color!
There are several events taking place to kickoff this great Summer reading program.
- For Kids: Stop by any branch June 4th between 2-4pm to decorate a team pennant and enjoy refreshments.
- For Teens: Multiple branches are hosting kickoff parties on various dates. All will include board games or video games, food, and music!
- For Adults: Tonight, June 1st, stop by the Main Library between 5:00-6:30 p.m. Test your knowledge by playing Reds Jeopardy with the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum, show your Wii skills and enjoy refreshments.
Do your kids read happily or complain about reading?
