IceFest 2011 | Great Books in Ice 1/21-1/22

IceFest is one one my family's favorite cold weather events and it's this weekend!  We're going to have to bundle up though 'cause it's going to be cold.

The streets around the courthouse in downtown Hamilton will be full of ice sculptures, live ice carvings, family events and of course hot chocolate.  Watching the ice carvings is my favorite part.  It  amazes me what someone can do with a giant block of ice and a chain saw.

This year's theme is Great Books in Ice.  Ice carvings will be of some of our favorite classic books including Cat in the Hat in the children's area.

Free Events include:

Friday, 1/21/11

  • 5:00 pm:  Technicolor Ice Walk begins
  • All Afternoon: Ice Sculptures along High Street from Front St to Martin Luther King Jr Blvd

Saturday, 1/22/11

  • 10:00 am – 2 pm:  Professional Ice Carvers Competition
  • 2:00 pm:  Speed Carving Competition
  • 3:00 pm:  Human Sled Race
  • All Day:  BookFest at IceFest at Ryan's Tavern all day on the 2nd floor
  • All Day:  Arts and Craft Show at the Government Services Building

Looking for something to do indoors instead? Newport Aquarium Winter Family Days and Entertrainment Junction B1G1 Free Admission are both great options.

If you go to IceFest, come back and tell us what your favorite sculpture was!
