Coca-Cola Arctic Home Program

Have you noticed anything different lately with your Coke can? My husband bought a case last week and came in drinking a white can. I gave him a puzzled look wondering what he was drinking. Well, until I saw the polar bears.

I knew polar bears have been part of Coke history for many years (back to 1922). Who can forget the image of the momma and her cubs drinking their Coke bottle in the Arctic? And back to my initial confusion – what exactly does the white can have to do with the red can?!

Then I learned about the Arctic Home Program.

It did leave me questioning what Coke was doing with “my” Coke can. And I was happy when I received an email (literally within days of my first white can experience) with more information on the initiative and an invitation to participate in a campaign to share what the white can is all about. Coke's good ole' red can went white for the Arctic Home Program.

Coca-Cola and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) are working together to protect the polar bear's Arctic habitat. In fact, Coke has made an initial $2 million donation to WWF for polar bear conservation. To get involved yourself, you can text your package code to 357357 to make a $1 donation to WWF. Coke will match all donations — up to $1 million! You can also donate online at ArcticHome.com.

Obviously this is an important cause for Coke since this is the first time they have ever changed the color of the iconic Coke cans.  I mean, it truly had me wondering what was going on and now I know what the Arctic Home Program is all about!

So during the holiday season (up to February, 2012), you will find all cans and bottle caps have gone white as a reminder to get involved in the campaign. So, yes, “our” red can will be coming back… :)

  1. I just purchased a case of coke and I have the bland red cans. I think it’s pretty phenomenal the amount they are donating – I’ll be registering my coke codes when I get them! Thanks for the heads up!

  2. I just heard that Coke was going to discontinue the White Polar Bear Cans. I am sickened by the stupidity of “some people” that are so disturbed that they can’t live without a red coke can. All I can say is GROW UP, learn to read. It says coke classic, that’s what it is. So what if some vile liquid was in a red coke can? Would these idiots just drink up and say “YUM”!? I know I am not in the minority. Everyone I’ve spoken with really liked the White Polar Bear design. So, to the Coke Company ; WE, the usually silent majority say in a loud clear and totally *unidiot* voice “LET THE POLAR BEARS STAY ON THE CAN”. Thank you.

    1. Sue, I saw that one the news tonight. I am baffled by it too. Irregardless if I’m working on this campaign, I personally think the white cans are just cool looking and actually remind more about Christmas than anything else. And, as loyal Coke drinker, they don’t taste any different :) It’s all a bit ridiculous, sounds like we both agree.

  3. white cans suck!!!!!!!!
