Are eCoupons considered manufacturer coupons?

Another coupon question coming in. This one is from Alissa…

Are eCoupons considered manufacturer coupons? Can they be doubled?

eCoupons are in fact considered manufacturer coupons. To answer your question specifically, NO, they do not double. So with that, the real value only comes into play if you happen to need another coupon for a product.

I have previously shared ways to manage Kroger's eCoupon policy change. The reason I wrote that post was because eCoupons are often confusing for people. Since Kroger affiliate stores does not allow using an eCoupon with a manufacturer's coupon, it's even more important to remember which eCoupons you have loaded to your store loyalty card.

The register actually reduces the eCoupon value and if you have a paper coupon to use, forgetting that you had an eCoupon attached to your card, the register will reject your paper coupon.  Since the paper coupon doubles and the eCoupon does not, that may mean that deal wasn't really worth it. This may not be all stores that have eCoupons, but this applicable for the majority that do.

Do you use eCoupons a lot? Have you had redemption issues at the register?

  1. This is why I love the registers at Vons (our Safeway affiliate). The register does the opposite of Kroger, and takes off the e-coupon and accepts (and doubles) the paper coupon.

  2. I shop at Safeway(doubles) and Foodlion (doesn’t double) which both have ecoupons and you can use both the ecoupons and paper manufacturer coupons together!!! It’s awesome!=)

  3. The first couple times I used e-coupons at Kroger they allowed my e-coupons and my paper manufacturers coupons together and it was awesome…super savings! But then I guess they figured it out and the next time they told me no. It’s hard to keep track of what e-coupons are on my card vis-a-vis trying to use paper ones so I tend to avoid the e-coupons all together.

  4. Does anyone know how Giant Eagle treats them?

  5. My Kroger allows both the ecoupons & paper coupons. I didn’t actually even know that you couldn’t use both. Maybe that’s why the cashier who ran my order had to override the system to take my paper coupons. But, the Kroger stores in my area don’t double coupons.

  6. I had trouble at Kroger with the ecoupons being deducted first, so now I always give the cashier my coupons before I enter my Kroger Plus card number.

  7. Actually it is easier now to keep track of your e-coupons loaded onto your Kroger card. When you sign into the site and go to my Kroger. Then click on digital coupons. You will then see a sentence above the coupons that says “Click here to view coupons already loaded to your card.”. You then have on the right side of the active coupon tab an option to print list. On the left hand side of the tab there is a drop down menu to sort by popularity, expiration date, value, and most recent. Before every trip my wife and I go through our binders of coupons and see if we have an actual coupon from an insert or printed out. If we do then we delete the e-coupon as here in Bloomington, IN they will take the e-coupon loaded on the card first and then not accept the other one. And to make it even harder they will only double the first two coupons up to $0.50 and any others after that are face value. The one saving grace about our town is that the Marsh store a couple times a year will have a super coupon event where for 2 – 3 days they will triple manufacturer coupons up $1.00 .

  8. At Krogers the other day I bought pack of Pampers for 9.77 ( not on sale) but needed to use my $5off Catalina coupon that I got awhile back for spending $25 on Pampers products b/c was about to expire. I don’t keep track of my ecoupons very well either, so I guess I had one on my card for $1.50 off pampers. Then it wouldn’t take my 5$ Catalina, which I thought I’d be able to use w/ a mftr Q but guess not! Anyways said they couldn’t take the eQ off so that I could use the higher value Q. They didn’t even want to take my paper .50Q for Pampers wipes, which I had also bought, b/c computer blocked as a Pampers product. When I explained that I had 2Pampers items & they looked it up, they did allow the wipes Q & doubled. Went to the service desk too & they said their is nothing they can do once the eQ comes off, to reverse it. So basically I lost out on $5 savings b/c didn’t have time nor wanted to get another pack of diapers. When I got home & looked closely over reciept realized that I had eQ come off .50 for Cheerios when I had also used 2-$1off Qs for the 2 boxes that I bought!! So I think Krogers eQs complicate things especially if you don’t keep close track of them and somtimes it works & sometimes it doesn’t (block add mftr Q when already had eQ com off)….. I like Meijers system much better b/c you do can do mperk (eQs) before or after paper Qs, so could choose which you’d rather use. Even better now b/c can use both on same item!!!

  9. That’s a great idea Susan! I will try that next time to see if it works. Some cashiers really want to get your card first. To Brian – that is a food idea as well but unfortunately I don’t have comuter or access to printer. Which also limits my ability to get coupons b/c can’t print any e-coupons. It would make it easier if Kroger had way to view E-coupons by department. I have web access on my phone but is hard to go thru 5 pages of coupons on the phone as I walk around shopping but if able to organize by dept. would make this much easier
