Gift in a Jar: Deluxe Oatmeal Cookies

As a reminder, for all of the Gifts in a Jar recipes you will need a Jar of any type. Mason Jars work well, or an old food jar. The ideal size is at least a quart to make sure all the layers show.

Deluxe Oatmeal Cookies Gift in a Jar Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup, Sugar
  • 1/3 cup, Brown Sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup, Flour
  • 1/2 tsp, Baking Soda
  • 1 cup, Quick-Cooking Oats
  • 1/2 cup, Sweetened Cranberries (dried)
  • 1 cup, Coarsley Chopped Walnuts
  • 1/2 cup, Chopped Dates

Instructions for assembling the Jar:

  1. Pour the sugar into your jar and smooth the top down.
  2. Spoon the brown sugar over the white sugar and press down.
  3. Spoon flour and baking powder over brown sugar and press down.
  4. Pour in the oats, then place cranberries on top of the oats.
  5. Place walnuts over cranberries and press down.
  6. Add the chopped dates over walnuts.

Once all of the steps above are complete, cover the jar tightly with a lid. Add your fabric, ribbon or raffia and the directions for baking.

Directions for Baking

Make a copy of the cooking directions below and place them on a card or paper and attach to the jar.

:: 1 Jar, Deluxe Oatmeal Cookies Mix
:: 1/3 cup, Butter (softened)
:: 1 Egg
:: 1/2 tsp, Vanilla

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Empty contents of jar into large mixing bowl.
  3. Add butter, egg and vanilla.
  4. Beat on low speed until dough is thoroughly blended.
  5. Roll teaspoons of dough into balls and place 3 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, until the edges are lightly browned.
  7. Remove from oven and let cookies cool for 1 minute and then transfer to cooling rack.
  8. Makes 3 to 3 ½ dozen cookies.
