Walmart Everyday Price List Differences

This couponing and saving question comes from Kim…

Today, I followed your list for Walmart but, when I went to the Eastgate Walmart, a bunch of the prices were higher. The cashier told me that every Walmart has different prices. That should be illegal. Anyway, did you know that? Are your prices for the Cincinnati market?

Kim, yes, my prices are from the Cincinnati market (specifically the store on Cin-Day in West Chester). However, in saying that Walmart prices are so regional – even stores within 10 minutes from one another regional.

I've also found, and heard, that if you visit a newer Walmart, the prices are much higher as well. That should definitely be illegal but it's not uncommon with some other stores as well (I've noticed it with my Meijer stores too).

This price discrepancy issue is the reason I haven't covered Walmart in the past. And only recently starting to maintain an everyday Walmart pricing list that I *thought* was more realistic to what I have been reading. I'm finding that the prices are just as much out of whack as the others. Here I thought our prices were high compared to other stores. I guess it's a huge reason why I rarely shop at Walmart. Everyday low pricing seems to be geographic.

Since I'm hearing there are more variances with the Walmart Everyday Price list we maintain and what readers are finding, I have created this post which allows for comments. It has all of the regular prices that we have found. If you find a price that is different in your region for that list, leave it in the comments there. Perhaps it will help others out who are shopping in your neck of the woods.

Does anyone else have major discrepancies in their Walmart prices, even amongst stores in your own city?

  1. I have been couponing for about 2 months now and at first whenever I seen a coupon blogger post a Walmart deal up. I print it out, head over to Walmart with my coupons and always find that Walmart prices are much higher then the prices listed on the list I printed out.

There have been two times that the prices were right (Wilkinson razors and the Sunggles fabric sheets) The only time I go to Walmart is to purchase All You Mags.

I usually go to Target which is much cheaper since you can use both a MFR Coupon and Target Coupon.

  2. Our Wal-Mart prices differ between all three locations in Topeka, KS. Literally you can go across town, which is not even 10 minutes driving time from store to store and find different prices at EACH ONE! It’s SO frustrating! You never know if you are really getting the best deal, without checking all three stores and you just won’t see me doing that!

I have found this with almost all stores. The Kroger stores in our area (Loveland/Milford) tend to have similar pricing; however, they often do not carry the same thing. For example: the deal a couple of weeks ago on the Huggies wipes… only 1 out of 3 stores near me actually had the deal going.

With that being said… I have found Target and Walmart pricing to very a great deal from the things posted on this site. I have also found that normally our Walgreens do not run the same deals that are posted.

What everyone needs to remember is we all live in different areas (even if it is only 15 minutes apart); however, different stores have different offers which sucks BUT… if we weren’t watching prices to begin with chances are we wouldn’t notice. I know I didn’t until I got into couponing.

I use the site as a guidance tool in my plans for shopping. When I get to the store if I’m not happy with what I see I put my coupon(s) away for the specific item and keep moving through my list if I’m not happy with what I see.

Overall…. Walmart to me doesn’t have better prices… normally they are higher than other stores.

Just my two cents in a very VERY wordy post… sorry!

  4. I don’t understand why it should be illegal? Should the governement tell stores what prices they can charge? As long as the price matches what was advertised in the flyer for that branch, they’re breaking no law.
