Soul Snack: Redeemer

Amy, over at Signs, Miracles, and Wonders (you know you're in for something good with a blog name like that!) is hosting “Then Sings My Soul Saturday.” Ironically, I found her blog through Beth's, “Miracle Monday” when I posted on Andon's miracle and I'm glad I did! Funny how God works like that…even in the blogosphere :-)

Here are the suggestions for posting:

Just write a post on your blog about a song. It can be a song that has spoken to your heart during a difficult time… a song that brings back a special memory… a song that makes you want to sing along to the top of your lungs… a song that makes you glad… a song that makes you want to dance… a song that has inspired you… a song that makes you feel like the words were written just for you… a song that makes your soul sing.

Easy enough. I'm thinking back around 3 years now when I really started to listen to contemporary christian music. Thankfully, we sent our son to a daycare and his teacher told me about klove. It's a wonderful station that has some amazing christian artists singing God's word!

The song that I really remember sticking in my head is Nicole C. Mullen's, “Redeemer.” I have heard other artists sing this song, but God has gifted Nicole C. Mullen's voice and her version is my FAVORITE! I remember hearing this song for the first time. I was driving to my office, in rush hour traffic with many things heavy on my heart. My father had just passed away and I was broken. I heard this song and the tears came flooding out of me. I thought, “Something is wrong with my eyes because they keep leaking!” Well, not really, but I know the holy spirit was with me that day and is what caused the music to touch me the way it did.

The song is all about our Redeemer – Jesus, Lord, Father, Abba…whatever you want to call Him. Our Saviour came down to redeem us and He lives with us today! You see, I was in pain from losing my dad, but Jesus was there to “hold me when I was broken” and helped me “face tomorrow” whatever that ended up being. He has brought me, and my precious dad “victory” – I know my dad is victorious with Him in Heaven because “He's alive and there's an empty grave.”

When you go through something painful – you have to know that your God is there with you and He lives. This song is definitely one that I sing to at the top of my lungs – you can ask my kids (and they'll sing it too!). Whenever I hear the song now, I don't have that same sense of pain as when I first heard it driving down I-75. I may shed a tear, but the emotions are different now – I'm not focused on the life I lost with my dad's death – I'm focused on the life I will have thanks to my blessed Redeemer! Thank you Jesus for your precious life you gave (how appropriate that Easter is next weekend) and for living today! And, thank you for giving Nicole that amazing voice – that girl doesn't just sing, she “SANGS!”

I encourage you to go check out Then Sings My Soul Saturday to see what songs everyone shares. You're sure to be blessed!

I am so sorry about the loss of your father. I lost my dad when I was 18. I am so thankful we have a Redeemer who deals with us tenderly and heals our hurting hearts!

I remember the first time I heard this song too. It was shortly after moving from California to Washington–marking the dissolving of my first marriage. I fell in love with that song, having been raised in the Church with the old standard hymn version. I was blessed that summer in the midst of the turmoil in my life to see Nicole C. Mullen perform it live here as part of Franklin Graham’s Festival.

Isn’t it interesting how we can remember these things???

Thanks for stopping by my blog too!

This was a beautiful post. It really spoke to my heart about the importance of an eternal persepctive and resting in the arms of our Redeemer no matter what life throws our way.
