Saving on Halloween Costumes
Every year we usual recycle our boys Trick or Treat (or as some refer to as “begging”) costumes. Of course, when Andon was a baby I bough the Hot Dog costume from Old Navy (on sale, of course). Seriously, who could resist a cute little Hot Dog! I wanted the boys to go as Ketchup and Mustard but they wouldn't go for it. What is with kids having their own mind and not letting me live through them…sigh….
This year, I haven't even thought about what the kids will go as. I haven't even asked. I'm guessing T won't even go since he's 11. But, Caleb will for sure. He'll probably either do the Army man like last year (above) or a Stallions Football Player (which he was today in real life though).
Andon is not in that picture but last year he was a Groom wearing a tuxedo that was T's 9 years ago! He was a crying groom too since every picture we have of him he has a sad face, or he's crying. Hopefully that's not a sign of the future for his blessed wife :)
We have bought costumes in the past and our boys would wear them during playtime too. Actually, the Army outfits above are from an actual Army store and they use them to play outside a lot. They think it's cool since it's camo and they both aspire to be Army men one day.
Yes, we paid for something new, but they also get way more than just one night's of use out of it. I know friends who also have a hey day at the local thrift store putting pieces together so local thrift stores are a great option as well.
How do you save on costumes during this time of year?
I used to buy brand new costumes every year for Halloween, but that got too expensive pretty quick. I don’t know why, but I hadn’t thought of going to the thrift store. I usually tell the kids they can be whatever they want as long as they can find it around the house!
