How to Keep Your Bathroom Paint from Peeling

The following Everyday Savings Tip comes from, Beth:

I recently had a mini-bathroom remodel and found out that it is an absolute must for a bathroom to have a ceiling fan and also to have a vent/register in the floor. My bathroom didn't have the vent/register; it did have a fan but I found out it was clogged so it wasn't doing anything. As a result my bathroom paint peeled and walls would mildew, particularly in the shower, but the paint peeled in the entire bathroom.

I now have both and problem solved. I'm sure this is common sense to some, but I didn't know any better and no handyman had ever mentioned it to me until this mini-remodel!

Many years ago we had a 100-year old Victorian home. The previous owners converted a closet into a bathroom and there wasn't ventilation available. However, they did add a ceiling fan. While it wasn't the best solution to keeping the bathroom dry, it did help considerably!

  1. Hahaha! Yeah, ventilation in bathrooms is a MUST! Learned that the hard way. Also, have you tried Mad Dog Primer for areas like this as well. It’s weatherproof, so it holds up to humidity really well in my opinion. Still, fans are a must.
