Fat Burnin’ Friday: Zumba Machine


Or, maybe that should be Zumba Dancin' Queen…actually, I am totally neither :)

This week, I rejoined the Y and started to Zumba. Do you Zumba? I am going to be doing this with my friend, feel free to come and watch me make a complete fool of myself every Tuesday morning ;) It can be your weekly funny!

I was so surprised at how fun this was! No, I completely failed at most of the moves, learning them will be a challenge before I work up a good sweat (you burn typically 500-600 calories per hour session – WOWZA). But, it was good for my soul. Seriously, I don't know about you but when I can laugh at myself, I always have fun! And, if I can burn calories while doing it, well double whammy!!

This week I didn't lose any weight, but really didn't expect to. My eating was *meh* and I only exercised the one time since we had a busy week. But, next week I'm back in the gym on Monday morning maybe running or maybe doing the elliptical. I'll be adding weights too along with the regular resistance training.

What's your favorite resistance move?

So, that's that with me. I am now a Zumba-ite in this new year! I think I'll look into some other group classes too. There is just something about being accountable in front of a ginormous mirror with people turning around and seeing your shake your badunkadunk…know what I mean :)

    Glad to hear you’ve gotten into doing Zumba. I love it. It’s definitely a good workout. I’m not sure if you YMCA offers it but Glutes ‘n Guts, Turbo Kick and Ab-solutely are three other good classes. I need to get back into going…just have to find time.

      Thanks, Tracy! I want to do something to really sweat a LOT ya know! I’m a sweat-er and don’t feel like the workout is worth it without lots of it :)

    I LOVE group classes! They help me change up a boring work out routine and get recharged again. I’m glad you liked Zumba…I looked like a total idiot when I did it last time, but it sure was fun!

    My Honey and I started Bob Greene’s Total Body Makeover last week and it’s been great for us! It’s mostly a workout plan so we don’t have to only eat grass and dandilions. I’m really sore, but have managed to keep the scale moving downward! It’s a 12 week program and we’re almost done with the second week.

    Congrats on rejoining the Y and going to group classes, I always get intimidated at first, but then have a blast. Anyway, good luck, YOU CAN DO IT!

    Hey Andrea,
    Which YMCA did you join? I workout at the East Butler County Y by Bridgewater Falls 3 mornings a wee. Mon & Fri I take a group cycling (Spinning) class ….and boy do I sweat! On Thursday I take a strength class call Pump. I’d love to meet you and have you join me if that’s the Y your going to.

      Hey Becky, I’m a member of the Lebanon Y. We were considering East Butler County but Lebanon is closer to my hubs’ job. My niece does soccer there – my nephew just had his birthday party at that one too a few weeks ago. It’s so nice!! I may have to look into spinning, I’ve heard such great things about it and am all about sweating!!!

    I LOVE Zumba! It’s so much fun – doesn’t even feel like I’m working out, and the time goes by quickly.

    If you want to sweat, you should try yoga. I sweat more in yoga than I ever did in any aerobics class, esp when they turn the heat up! And I can definitely feel it in my muscles the next day.

    I Zumba here at our local Y in VA, the instructor is awesome and it’s such a fun workout. The dance and the choreography can’t help but make you smile and get into it. I’m also a fan of step – again, another exercise where the choreography helps keep your focus and keep you going.

    I just started Zumba myself two months ago and I am totally hooked! If you don’t know the move you are still working out and having fun! Enjoy!

    I haven’t tried that yet but it sounds like a blast.

    If your food was meh… are you logging it? How do you know what you’re taking in verses what you are burning? Do you know your BMR (not BMI)?

    I use the Lose It app for the iTouch/iPhone to log my food. You can also log your exercise there, too. I’ve also done the math with my BMR. My daily weight loss calorie budget is just over 1400 calories per day. I will have to modify that as I get closer to my goal because the BMR of someone my height and at my goal weight will have to eat just over 1200 net calories (cal in minus cal out) to maintain that weight.

    Andrea – I’m with you! If there isn’t sweat, it must not have been a good workout. Good luck – I hope you find another class.
