Diet & Fitness Snack: Fat Burnin’ Friday

Last week, I shared some foods that helped me get on track as I first started my weight-loss journey. I thought I would follow up with that and talk about the other very important aspect to weight loss: exercise!

Surely, you know exercise is important. I have heard people say that they have lost just by changing their eating habits. I believe that's possible…just not for me (I'm cursed..argghhh). So, that might be possible for you and if your weight loss goal is to just lose, you will succeed. My goal was/is to lose but it's also to be strong and fit now and to change the “S” word that people think about – no more Skinny, I want to be STRONG!

I have shared my exercise regimen before. But, just like life, it has evolved and looks a little different now. I believe that if you add at least 30 minutes of cardio 4-5 days a week, it will be the jumpstart to your weight loss (and, again…I'm not doctor or anything just a rehabilitated chubbylicious mom :-)! And, those 30 minutes cannot just be random stuff, they need to get your heart rate up…and, for me that also means sweat! I don't know, to me it's not a workout if I don't sweat… a.LOT!

Get the cardio down. Aim High. Seriously…plan on doing at least 5 days and feel good when you accomplish 3-4. If that thinking will make you feel defeated, then commit to what you can. In the beginning, I aimed to get 5 days and ended up doing 4 most weeks, and felt proud of that! So, whatever psychology works for you, just stick with it! Once you have the cardio committed, add in strength training. That helps build muscle and muscle burns more calories = SWEET! I do at least 3 days of strength training, which is mostly resistance training and hand weights.

Long story short, just get that exercise in! Make it a PRIORITY. I know as moms we get busy, but exercising and feeling better about yourself is SO GOOD for your mental health and it helps you be a better mother and wife. So, as I've seen written, “Just Do It!”

    I really need to get on this. I have recently gotten the weight training down 3 times a week. Ryan works out with me with his weights, so he pushes me.

    But, I just can’t seem to get on the cardio. Ugh! I hate cardio, I would rather lift weights every day.

    I’ve worked out every day since Sunday!! I got a new yoga DVD (Denise Austin Yoga Body Burn) that I love! Its challenging (I can’t do all the poses) and get my heart pumping!

    This morning I did a 5 minute jog, lifted weights and did 5 more minutes. A good workout considering it was before work and I plan on doing more yoga tonight!
