Diet & Fitness Snack: Fat Burnin’ Friday

Wednesdays are my weigh-in days and that is the number I use to log my weight loss. Small Bummer… gained a pound back this week (but as of last night, it was gone…but, I still go by my Wednesday number). Anyhoo – I'm guessing those ding dongs had something to do with it..and I am a little bloated, oh well. This small gain leads me to this…

You gain some, you lose some – as long as you're numbers are progressively going down (if that's your personal goal), you're doing good!

My weight loss is really weird. I may lose two pounds one week (and a healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds each week), but then nothing the next. Or, like this past week – I lost two pounds, and gained one pound back. In the end, it all accumulates to around a pound a week. I really should weigh myself monthly, but there's just something that scale does for my accountability and all.

Like I said, as long as you're numbers are reducing, then you are still on the right track. In the past, if gained back more than 2 pounds, I would review my weight-loss food tracker at Sparkpeople and try to find the cause and it would always vary: too much fat one week, too much carbs the next (and not enough exercise). My body is just now really starting to get back into a fat burnin' groove – I think because a baby causes your body to hold on fat or something (I still use that excuse for my 8-year old anyway). But, really, our baby, Andon, will be a year old next month and my body's metabolism is just now getting back to normal and is chanting “Must Burn Fat!”

In order to burn that fat, I have to exercise (nope – no pill can stop the jiggle from your wiggle) and my fat intake has to be low. And, while low carbs are good, I cannot lose weight with limited carbs anymore (no more South Beach for me). I am working out so much that my body needs the additional fuel so it doesn't think I'm starvin' it – and carbohydrates are the fuel my body needs…and water, lots and lots of water!

So, even though this is a small setback, I'm not too bummed because I know I am doing all the right things (eating right and exercising). Also, I know how my body works with losing weight – I haven't lost 14 pounds in 3 months by eating ding dongs every night (although remember last week – caving to your cravings isn't always bad). I know it will come because I am committed…and I tried on a bathing suit today and those mirrors in the dressing rooms are horrible – motivation and extra commitment for this upcoming week!

I have went to try on clothes for motivation before. I hate to try on clothes but I hate dressing room mirrors more!

I have a competitive side of me. If I had someone that I was close to that would join the weight loss train with me, it would get me motivated.
