Diet & Fitness Snack: Fat Burnin’ Friday

I think it's interesting when I see people exercising and they aren't breaking a sweat. I don't know if it's genetics and they just don't sweat, or are they really challenging themselves enough to break a sweat. I know you need to start with baby steps (baby steps in everything I say) when you begin a routine, but eventually you really need to challenge your body and feel the burn – and that includes breaking a SWEAT! I sweat…I sweat a lot actually when I'm working out! I just don't feel like it's been a good workout unless I sweat so much it's stingin' my eyes!! I'm one of those worker outers that needs a sweat towel when I'm exercising because I would be dripping wet otherwise. This gross and personal testimony I've just shared brings me to this…

When I was younger (pre-kids and pre-marriage) and I was at the gym, I will never forget this one particular sweaty workout. I was burning my butt off on the stationary bike, when a man walked by and said, “Wow, you look like you're working hard.” I was like (in my head), “DUH, I'm not here to look pretty!” I really believe in order to get a good workout, sweating is part of that process. You know your body better than anyone, so this tip may not necessarily be right for you (in case you are one that I refer to as genetically blessed and don't sweat), but I believe most people (even my BFF who doesn't sweat) sweat when they have a good workout. Sweating is the body's reaction to cool itself. When your body is hot enough to need cooling that means you're burning calories and your metabolism is fired up! That is some good stuff right there!!

And, my fat loss for the week…I lost 1 pound!!! Each week I say this, but I am very surprised. I am working out religiously, but my food intake is not as rigid and I've fallen from taking on Sparkpeople. So, I truly believe this loss is strictly from all my sweating!!!

How did you do this week? With summer coming, are you planning on changing up your routine at all since it's crazy hot? I'd love to year from ya (as always!!).

Wow!! Great job. A pound is a lot. I recently had a baby (well, last november) and have been working on loosing weight ever since. I lost a 1/2 pound this week, I should be doing better, especially because I am nursing. I find it really hard to exercise every day, most days its too cold and rainy to go outside. (it will be 57 in Seattle today, so much for summer!!)

Maybe I’ll do better this week!

Erin, 1/2 pound is awesome especially with nursing! I’ve always heard that you hang on to those pounds until the baby is done nursing. But, it is such a great way to burn more calories, and of course, a wonderful way to bond with your baby!!

We were just talking about Seattle yesterday since it was raining here. We wondered how people did it living there since it rains a lot! I exercise inside mostly but do enjoy the occasional run outside too!

    Keep up the fat burnin’!!!

I sweat just like you! I’m literally drenched. Saturday my sister and I went out for a run (it was hot and humid too) and even after my shower I was still sweating. It takes me like 15+ minutes to slow the steam of sweat and about 30 seconds for it to start:)

Oh, it doesnt rain ALL the time. We are just having a rough start to summer. Its actually always mild here, I got an hour walk in today w/ the stroller (it was about 60). Its always green and pretty here, and the winters are very mild with only a little snow, and summers don’t get miserable either! My husband was stationed in Connecticut for a few years and the drastic weather was unreal!! 90 and 100% humidity or 4 degrees and blowing ice!! I think you all are the brave ones!!

    Happy fat burning to you!

Erin – thanks for clarifying (hehe). Hey, that’s how the portrayed Seattle in the movie, “Sleepless in Seattle.” LOL! I think Ohio is the worst with the weather – seriously, one day it was 85 degrees, the next it was snowing (no joke). I’ve lived here all my life and still can’t get used to that!
