I have lived in Huber most of my life and have never been! Actually, I was landing from a business trip once during the Air Show and was able to see some of the show out of the plane window–does that count? :D

Hi my name is Marcie P. Asking me to comment on my personal experience brought back lots of memories and I thought this would be a nice way to honor Jim LeRoy, an American aerobatics pilot and former US Marine Corps Scout/Sniper who lost his life at the 2007 Dayon Air Show.

My memory begins with my husband and our children at their first Dayton Air Show, July 27, 2007. We piled our son (12), his good friend and my daughter (7) into the mini van early morning, grabbed breakfast on the way and headed to Dayton. Upon arriving, we carried our chairs into the show, came upon a good spot and sat down just in time for the show to begin.

However, our experience was bitter sweet that day. A day which I will never forget. The air show began. We were very excited!! It is so amazing to see the show. Visiblity was poor that day. It was hard to see clearly. The show began and we were in awe of everything. The stunt planes started their performances and were diving real close to the ground. I kept thinking to myself “wow they are close to the ground”. Then all of the sudden, during a stunt performed by Jim LeRoy and his S2S Bulldog II, he went down and never came back up just as I feared. Everyone was shocked. Later, we found out he did not survive the crash. I belive out of respect and due to further investigation, the remainder of the show was cancelled.

The next day, we were fortunate enough to get to go back to Dayton and see the incredible show. One of the performers dedicated a smoke heart drawn by the aircraft in the sky for Jim (which I remember taking a picture of with my camera). They even had a moment of silence. All such a wonderful way to remember such a talented man. The following is quoted from this website describing the show the very next day, The USAF Heritage flight, dedicated one extra pass from the left to Jim, having “Bondo’s” F-15 pull up and out of the lead slot for a missing man formation flight. Skip Stewart and Kent Shockley went forward with a performance of Code Name: Mary’s Lamb without Jim. Rob Rider, Dayton’s airshow announcer paid tribute to Jim with a very heartfelt speech and a moment of silence…you can read the whole article at this website:

We have been talking about going this year because we really enjoyed it so much (aside from the tragic accident, of course). My father took me to my first air show when I was a little girl. He said he would love to go with us. I do get to take my dad and my son. Now I’d like to be able to take my husband, daughter and brother. If I got this family 4-pack, it would help me be able to take everyone in my family who wants to go and would make our trip complete.

We were there the year the plane crashed and the pilot died. Definitely most memorable because I’ll never forget the moment we realized something went horribly wrong.

When I read they were coming to town, I wanted to go. Winning free tickets would be even better!. My husband LOVES planes. When we were in the Army in Alaska, we went to the Air Show up there. The Thunderbirds (and the stuff they can do) are amazing to watch. I know we’d have so much fun as a family.

Unfortunately, I’ve never been to an Air Show in my life, but I just got married and my husband goes CRAZY for airplanes! I took him to the Air Force museum in Dayton and he almost passed out–it was the best experience of his life! He’s been freaking out about the idea of going to the Air Show, and since he’s not from the US he would be AWESTRUCK by the airplanes because he even gets excited when he sees a little Air Force plane go by! I’d do anything to go, but I’m a college student and am paying for school AND supporting the both of us by working full time while my husband’s green card application goes through. My husband and I would DIE of happiness if we could go, and it would be great if we won since you could give TWO Air Show tickets to us and two to someone else on this message board so that more people can win!

I’ve never been to an Air Show either, but I know that Dayton’s has to be the best, and I’d love to take my dad because he’s had to have eye surgery and two MRIs on his knees, both this week, and this would be a great way to get his mind off his pain. He’s a veteran from the Air Force, so Air Shows are very close to his heart and I know that going would make him feel so much better.

Love air shows. Had the Blue Angels fly extremely low over me while driving and my car started to shake and it felt like my wheels were going to fall off. I did not know what happened till I saw them turn around and make another low pass. Found out last night my son’s Navy aircrew will be here providing a static for the show. Was getting ready to buy tickets, but will wait in case I get luck with your site. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
