Downtown Cincinnati | Holiday Happenings

Downtown Cincinnati, with all the lights and holiday displays, can be a great family outing this time of year!  My family and I created some reat new memories downtown last year and I can’t wait to do it again soon.  We made a whole afternoon and evening of it with stops at each of the following:

65th Annual Holiday Train Display

I remember going to the Duke Energy building as a child for the Holiday Train Display with my family. Now it’s a tradition with my kids too!  The trains and surrounding displays are so intricate.  I enjoy my boys excitement as they point out this detail and that detail.  The Duke Energy Building is at southwest corner of 4th & Main Streets.

Macy’s Downtown Dazzle

Plan a trip downtown on one of the next 3 Saturdays (12/4, 12/11, 12/18) for Macy’s Downtown Dazzle.

I most cases we think of Santa arriving by sleigh right?  Not true for this event.  Instead, Santa rappels down the side of the 525 Vine building on to the rooftop of the Macy’s building at Fountain Square.  Enjoy fireworks just after Santa’s arrival.  The event will start off with choirs singing at 5:45 pm and Santa will start his descent at around 6:30 pm.

Story Time with Mrs Claus

After the fireworks head into Macy’s for cookies, crafts and stories with Mrs Claus.  If it’s a really cold day this would be a great time to warm up a little.

Holly Jolly Downtown Trolley

Riders can get on and off trolleys at trolley stops along the route of the continuous 10 minute loop.  Ride from Fifth Street to Pike, across Fourth Street to Central and back over Fifth Street. We haven’t done this but it sounds like a good *Free* way to enjoy the lights around downtown.

Gingerbread Houses on Display

Some Downtown hotels have some pretty spectacular gingerbread houses on display. Be sure to stop by:

  • Hyatt Regency Hotel at 151 Fifth Street
  • Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza at 35 W Fifth Street
