Smale Riverfront Park: Grand Opening Celebration 6pm-9:30pm

The Cincinnati Park Board will celebrate the Grand Opening of the completion of phase 1 of Smale Riverfront Park this Friday evening. The dedication will occur at 6:15pm and be followed by a concert and fireworks.

This is a family friendly event and will include several Freebies including ice cream, face-painting, jugglers and balloon-makers. Food will be available for purchase at the Moerlein Lager House adjacent to the park. Patrons are welcome to bring food and picnic on the lawn while enjoying concert music performed by Cincinnati Super Choir, Tropicoso, Swampthang and many more!

The evening will conclude with a 9pm fireworks show by Rozzi’s!

The Park is on Mehring Way between Walnut St. and Joe Nuxhall Way (formerly Main St.)

Deefield Township: Movies in the Park

Bring a blanket and the family to watch the movie The Smurfs (Rated PG) at Cottell Park in Deerfield Township. This Free event is open to the public and hosted by Deerfield Township. Bring some snacks, jackets and snuggle in to watch this film!

Mainstrasse Village Maifest 5pm-11:30pm

The 33rd Annual Maifest celebration in MainStrasse Village is taking place this weekend!  Maifest promises an opening parade Friday at 6pm, followed by a weekend full of Germain music, heritage, food and fun! Check here for the full entertainment schedule.

The event is Free and open to the public. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Boone County Public Library: River Rat and Cat 7pm

Playhouse Off the Hill presents this comedy about friendship and cooperation at the Boone County Main Library. River Rat and Cat learn they don’t need to be the same or even like the same things in order to be good friends.

The play is Free and open to the public. Target audience is ages 4 and up.

Miami Whitewater Forest: Local Wildlife Lore and History 2pm

Share in the stories, myths and legends of local animals in this talk that intertwines folklore with truthful historical accounts. The storytelling takes place in the Visitor Center.

The event is Free. Valid Hamilton County Parking Pass is required ($10 Annual or $3 Daily).

Withrow Nature Preserve: Forest and Fields Hike 2pm

Walk with a naturalist through the forest and fields of this park. I find Hamilton County Parks naturalists to be a wealth of information and always enthusiastic to answer questions from adults and children alike. The walk will take you to an overlook of the Ohio River.

The event is Free. Valid Hamilton County Parking Pass is required ($10 Annual or $3 Daily).

Woodland Mound: Frog Choir 2pm

Come to Woodland Mound Seasongood Nature Center on Sunday to learn about the various calls that different frogs make. There will also be a chance to participate in a frog band!

Cincinnati Public Library: Cincinnati Choral History Book Launch 2pm-4pm

The book launch of A City That Sings: Cincinnati’s Choral Tradition 1800–2012 takes place this Sunday at the Main Library in the Reading Garden Lounge. The May Festival’s new book is the first full-length chronicle of Cincinnati’s contributions to choral music. The program will include a panel discussion featuring the book’s four authors, moderated by Cincinnati Pops Orchestra conductor John Morris Russell, brief performances by MUSE Cincinnati Women’s Choir and the Martin Luther King Chorale, followed by a book signing.  Books will be available for purchase from Joseph-Beth Booksellers.
