Frugal Decorating Ideas for a College Dorm Room

Frugal Ways to Decorate a Dorm Room

Are you about to become a college student and learn how to live frugally? If so, are you looking for frugal decorating ideas for your dorm? Your dorm room is about to become your home away from home. Therefore it is important for you to create a space that makes you feel at home.

By making simple DIY projects, you can have a stylish and efficient place to call home. Most students live on a minimal budget, making it difficult to have a stylish dorm room. However by adding color and keeping it organized, your dorm room will be a place you will want to hang out in.

Frugal Tips for Dorm Room Design

{1} Add pops of color. One of the easiest and cheapest ways to add style to a room is by using a trendy color. Search the local thrift stores for frugal finds like brass lamps and picture frames and paint them a color like yellow, orange or bright green.

{4} Make your own wall decals by using contact paper. Contact paper comes in many patterns or solid white. Cut the contact paper into shapes or letters and paint them to coordinate with your room. Stick them to the wall and peel them off when you are ready to move.

Dorm room walls are normally made of concrete. By decorating the walls, you will add warmth to the room. Remember that most dorms will not allow you to drill a hole or paint the walls so using something like 3M command hooks are needed.

{5} Jazz up your walls with duct tape. Many dorms will come with fireproof curtains that cannot be removed. You can always tape ribbon or use colored duct tape to to create a pattern or stripes.

Duct tape is now available in many colors and patterns and is an inexpensive way to add some temporary pizazz to just about anything.
