Bread Machine Bread Mix Recipe

Few things can beat the smell of fresh bread baking as it drifts throughout your house. But sometimes you just don’t have the time to stop what your doing and mix up a batch, knead and bake it.

If you have a bread machine and can take a little time on a down day to pre-make some simple bread machine mixes you can have fresh baked bread ready to go for months. Just pop the mix in your machine, add a few wet ingredients and go about the rest of your day while it is prepared start to finish.

If you don’t already have one, here are a few great options for bread machines:

Also consider checking the local Goodwill or second hand store to see if you can find one even cheaper!

Homemade Bread Machine Mix Ingredients

  • 3 cups, Bread Flour
  • 2 Tbsp, Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp, Dry Milk
  • 1 ½ tsp, Salt
  • 1 packet or 2 ½ tsp, Dry Active Yeast (keep separate until preparing)
  • 1 ¼ cups, Warm Water (add for preparation)
  • 1 Tbsp, Vegetable Oil (add for preparation)

Homemade Bread Machine Mix Directions

  1. In a large bowl combine the first 4 ingredients until well combined. Place in an airtight container or storage bag. Place yeast packet onto flour mixture container with a small piece of tape to keep them together.
  2. When you are ready to prepare your bread, pour water and oil into bread machine, next pour in contents of flour mixture, and top with yeast. Press White-Light Crust option on your bread machine and when bread is done remove from pan and allow to cool for 1 hour before slicing (if you can resist).

Once you start baking your own bread this way it is addicting! You could also package this up in a mason jar and gift it for a housewarming or any occasion in a basket with a pretty dish towel and a jar of jam or preserves.
