The following Everyday Savings Tip comes from, Sarah of Making Cooley Stuff:

First of all, liquid hand soap and body wash are pretty much the same thing.  If you have a lot of body wash that you got free or dirt cheap after sale and coupon, why not use some of it in your soap dispenser?

Secondly, you can easily turn bar soap into liquid soap.  Then you can use that liquid soap in your soap dispenser on your sink for washing hands, or you can use it in your shower as body wash.  Here’s what you do:

• Using a large cheese grater, grate one bar of soap into a large stock pot.
• Add 10 cups of water and heat until the soap flakes are dissolved.  You can add 1 tablespoon of liquid glycerin if desired.
• Let it cool for an hour or so.  This makes just enough to fill up one of the 64-oz soap refill containers.
• Use a funnel and pour the mixture into the soap refill container (or a recycled milk jug if you don’t have one).  It will take awhile to coagulate, about 24-36 hours.

So, you can get your free/cheap bar soap, free/cheap body wash, and make your own free/cheap liquid hand soap…which means you can get away with spending little to nothing cleaning your family!  I also make my own washcloths using recycled grocery bags, which also costs nothing.
