Make Your Own Snacks and Save

The following Everyday Savings Tip comes from, Beth:

One way I save is by buying Ritz or similar crackers and peanut butter when on sale with coupons. I make my own peanut butter cracker sandwiches. You save that way and I think they are better for you, with fewer added ingredients.

Also, I like to buy potato chips in a good sale, and then put them in sandwich bags as needed instead of buying the more expensive smaller snack size bags.

What do you make yourself rather than buy in the store?

  1. I like to make homemade granola bars. I prefer the chewy granola bars. I make a peanut butter and chocolate chip version for my boys, and a cranberry and almond version for myself. It’s nice to have a batch of these made and portioned out for a quick snack to go! Other things that I like to make include homemade fruit leather (much cheaper than store bought!), homemade animal crackers (I got some super cute animal cracker cookie cutters from Williams-Sonoma, they’re a bit time consuming to make so I don’t make them as often as I would like), and mini muffins. I love making anything and everything homemade, it saves money, it’s generally better for you, and it give me a sense of accomplishment!
