We’ve been building Chipotle’s Burrito Bowl from the rice up.  So far we’ve covered Cilantro-Lime Rice ^[2], Vegetarian Black Beans ^[3] and Adobo Marinated Chicken ^[4].  Next time we’re going to put it all together (with a few cooking tips to keep it easy), but first we’ve got some salsas to make!

Chipotle’s Corn Salsa Ingredients

• 16 oz frozen corn, thawed and drained
• 1/4 cup red onion, diced
• 1 jalapeno pepper, seeds removed and diced
• 1/3-1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
• 1/4 tsp. salt

Cooking Directions

Stir all the ingredients together. Scoop on chips or use to top tacos, burritos or in burrito bowls.

Chipotle’s Mild Salsa Ingredients

• 5 Roma tomatoes, seeded and chopped
• 1 garlic clove, crushed
• 1/4 cup red onion, diced
• 1/4 tsp. salt

Cooking Directions

Stir all the ingredients together.  Scoop with chips or use as a topping on any Mexican meal.

Restaurant Cost Comparison

Chipotle’s Corn Salsa and Mild Salsa are both simple to fix and making them at home will save you a lot of money.  In the restaurant, you can expect to pay 80 cents per serving.  For 6 servings that’s $4.80, just for salsa!

The cost for making them at home is about $1.50 or less for 6-8 servings.  Both salsas ring up at around the same price.  The cost savings by making it at home will be the difference of buying  several bags of chips!
