Easy Way to “DVR” at No Cost

The following Best Savings Tip comes from reader, Rachel:

We do not have a DVR. But, we’re still able to catch our favorite shows if we miss them when they air on tv.

We spent $30 for a cable to hook our computer up to our tv. This enables us to watch our favorite shows on Hulu or on the network website for free! Most shows are available on the internet within a week of their original air date. We simply hook up the cable and can watch the shows on our tv.

We can pause, remind or fast forward, just like a DVR. But unlike a DVR, this is free!!

Do you have your computer hooked up to your tv? This is something we have been wanting to do and just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Another benefit to this is renting movies online for super cheap. The $30 cable would be worth it over renting from the cable provider!

I bought this 15 ft HDMI cord on Amazon for $14 to connect my laptop to our TV. It works great. I use it for the same reasons as Rachel. I love when the Amazon Video-on-Demand credits come out, because I can stream the free movies right to my TV.

We actually got rid of cable a couple of years ago, and between the library and the system mentioned above, we catch all our shows and movies and have not once missed cable.
