Stores That Allow Stacking Coupons

On Facebook last week, Anne asked this question:

What stores allow you to stack coupons?

I realized I don’t have a post where I have shared that information specifically so I thought I’d put one out there for ya!

As a reminder, coupon stacking is using two coupons one product. Those two coupons must consist of (1) manufacturer’s coupon PLUS (1) store coupon on (1) item. In this situation, you can use (2) coupons total to purchase the (1) item.

Many stores allow stacking of coupons. However, registers may beep if you only have (1) item and (2) coupons. In situations like this, it’s smart to include a filler item is strategic for those purchases.

Here is an example of coupon stacking:

M&M’s, 9.9 to 12.6 oz – $2.50
$1/1 M&M’s Candies, 9 oz+ 06/19/11 RP Insert (exp 07/31/11)
STACK $1/2 Mars M&M’s Candies, 12.6 oz Walgreens IVC
Net Price $1 each

The $1 Net Price for the product is thanks to stacking coupons. You are using both the store coupon and the manufacturer’s coupon. Again, if you only purchased this one item, the register will beep so remember to include that filler item to avoid annoying beeps :)

Now, with regards to stores that allow you to stack coupons, here are a few that I have successfully stacked coupons according to store policy:

Drugstores

Grocery Stores

  • Dorothy Lane Market
  • Meijer
  • Publix

Find the store coupon policies here.

Big Box Stores

  • Staples
  • Target
  • Walmart

Find the store coupon policies here.

Warehouse Clubs

  • BJ’s Warehouse Club
    Thanks, Patricia!

I don’t think you would need a filler item with this scenario. As long as the Walgreens coupons are scanned last, they attach as a Walgreens coupon and they also don’t beep!

Mitchell, Walgreens always considered store coupons an additional coupon which affected their 1:1 coupon ratio causing them to beep. Is that different in your store?

Yes, in fact, I recently tested this out. If the real manufacturer’s coupon is scanned first and the Walgreens one after, the Walgreens coupon does not count toward the coupon to item ratio and attaches as a Walgreens coupon. However, if the Walgreens coupon (IVC) is scanned first (before the real manufacturer’s coupon), it attaches as a manufacturer’s coupon. Therefore, the real manufacturer’s coupon cannot be used.

I hope that made sense! Haha

walgreens…always have them scan the wags coupons first and you do need filler items. You cannot have more items than coupons.

One of our grocery stores (Homeland) here in Oklahoma will allow stacking coupons, as well as Double coupon. They also have their own card (which is called, One Card Savings) that you can get additional savings on. However, they have changed their policy now and that you must put your coupons with the items that you purchased instead of just handing them to the cashier. I guess they were having too many people sneaking in coupons on items that they didn’t purchase. :)

My Publix not only STACKS but will STACK with an approved competitor… my favorite Publix will take Target, Kroger, Whole Foods and Fresh Market coupons. They recently have restricted the stacking…they USED to allow a PUBLIX coupon, a COMPETITOR coupon AND a Manufacture together… but they have changed that…so it’s manufacture and publix/or/ competitor … my Target stacks Target and Manufacture.
