DIY Foaming Hand Soap

The following Best Savings Tip comes from reader, Deb:

My family likes to use foaming hand soap. When the pump bottles get empty, I mix my own liquid soap to refill them.  You can buy liquid hand soap in large bottles, or I've even just used dish liquid.

Mix 1.5 ounces of liquid soap with 5.5 ounces of water to refill one foam pump bottle. I use an empty gallon bottle to mix up 3 cups of liquid soap with 11 cups of water to make a large batch of refill solution to have on hand.

With coupons, I sometimes get dish liquid nearly for free, so using it to mix my own foaming hand soap is very inexpensive and much better for the environment than throwing away the foam pump bottles every time they get empty.

  1. Yes, I do this. I don’t measure it out. I just put some hand soap in the dispenser, add water and shake it up. It works great. I’ve been using the Nivea Women’s body wash that I got for free at Kroger at the last sale and it smells so good. I also use it at bath time for my preschooler. He loves the foam and using it to wash himself.
