Homemade Yogurt Parfait…YUM!

OK, this isn’t a ground-breaking recipe but it will help you save a few bucks. I’ve been a bit obsessed with parfaits lately. Anytime we go through Chick-fil-A, I substitute a parfait instead of the fries. It’s healthier so I justify the additional cost that way :) As I was licking the spoon off of my last fast-food purchased parfait, I realized I should just make these myself. And, I have ever since.

Homemade Yogurt Parfait Ingredients

:: Yogurt
:: Fruit
:: Granola

In a bowl or cup, add a bottom layer of yogurt. Add your fruit, then another layer of yogurt. Add granola if you want. You don’t have to layer it but it just looks nice that way, right? :)

Also, I purchased frozen fruit for a few reasons. I wanted to have the fruit on hand whenever I get the craving. Blueberries aren’t in season in the dead of winter so paying for fresh would mean spending around $4 a pint…NOT! Plus, frozen fruit serves as refrigeration if/when you need to take these to a gathering like I did recently with my MOPS group.

I purchased all of my ingredients at Aldi. I think their nonfat vanilla yogurt tastes the best of all store-brand varieties. They were all way cheaper than purchasing store-brand at any other store. And, I love shopping at Aldi to save without coupons!

As I mentioned I took these to my MOPS group recently. Putting them in the little cups as shown above worked out great as individual servings. I cut up foil squares and placed them on top of each. My MOPS group loved them (right girls… you an comment and admit that you did – it’s ok!).

Weight Loss Note

I read a long time ago in some magazine or book that adding more calcium to your diet could help with weight loss. As I was going through the main weight loss in 2008, I started adding more yogurt and cheese. I’m not convinced that alone was the magic bullet but I personally think it helped me since I remember my weight loss was more consistent when I added those items. I’m sure running my butt off didn’t hurt either :) Possibly the healthy protein and calcium was a good combination though. It’s worth a try!

    Oh, yes, yes, yes I sure loved them! I came home from our MOPS meeting raving about them to my husband. Promptly went to Aldis, got the ingredients, and we’ve been eating them ever since! :-)

      Sounds great! How much cinnamon is in the overnight granola recipe? I found the recipe in a search, but it only mentioned cinnamon in the directions. Thanks!
