Caleb started Kindergarten last year with his Lands End backpack. It’s still like brand new. As a matter of fact, when we received this new backpack in the mail, the war ensued between T and Caleb as to who would get it! T could use a new backpack. And, Caleb, well he just likes all things new so he wanted it.
I think the colors got them, honestly. The bag we received is blue and gold, aka University of Michigan colors. I know, I know. We live in Ohio and our school’s colors are the same as the Wolverines. I thought there was a law preventing that? :) At any rate, it works for the boys to show their school pride…Lands End style!
So, with our dilemma, wanna know which of our boys got the backpack? Well, the video below will tell ya :)
I’m sorta sad to be starting a new phase with this lil’ booger. It seems like yesterday we were celebrating his first birthday. I’m definitely excited to see how many years it’ll take him through (and to have him be at school..and learn, yeah, learn of course)!

We sometimes use bookbags but most time my kids are same they like to have new one but we will use the one from year before like switch back and fourth or they will use to go on sleepovers or just day out places we use them.
If there are not holes in it and the straps are still in tact, keep using the same bag! Although my son no longer needs a bookbag (he could carry one but, they search them every day at his school so its more of a pain that it is necessary) my Aunt has 4 young rough and tumble boys (ages 6, 7, 9 & 11) I would LOVE to be able to give her a high quality backpack that could withstand the abuse!
Absolutely we reuse backpacks and Lands End backpacks are fantastic!

Yes! We re-use backpacks too…thats why quality counts…it may cost a little more OOP…but in the end its worth it…
I totally reuse backpacks. I was hoping to give my little one (K-5) a new one since it will be her first day of school but Im not giving up yet. She may still get one!! Thanks.
Now following on Facebook. Thanks for all the tips!
Definitely reuse them if they are not too worn out!
We love Lands End backpacks. I’ve let my kids get character ones for Kindergarten and reuse for 1st grade. Then in 2nd I’ve gotten them a Lands End with monogram. I love how well they last. My oldest didn’t get a Lands End one yet though and he’s starting middle school this year. Would love to win one for my 1st grader or 6th grader.

After hearing about a friend’s great experience with Land’s End I was gonna order during their 20% off sale but I missed it! I still need to get my son a back pack and school starts Monday! EEK!
We do. We are almost ready to add a new backpack though and this would be great! Thanks for the chance to win.

We definitely like to reuse backpacks, but most of ours have not made it through the school years. My oldest son, who is now a high school senior, has been able to use the same Jansport since eight grade. I would love to win a Land’s End backpack for him to use in the future! I have always been impressed with the Land’s End quality.
we abuse them too much to be able to reuse them
Definitely reuse! I have a Jansport that made it through one year of high school, four years of college and two years of graduate school. It is stil in good shape to this day! Quality is the key and I know Land’s End wil be quality!
Hello! Yes we reuse! We are trying to make do with less so we came up with a plan to decorate an old backpack with iron on appliques. I hope it works, I’ve never done this before. The appliques that she picked out are pink & girly and the back pack is blue with red trim…it should be interesting, if nothing else. She is just starting kindergarten, hopefully this backpack that will last several years. If we won the Lands end one, it would be a blessing! Thank you for having a backpack giveaway.
Take care,
Cathy
This year we have a son in 1st grade and one in pre-K. I’d love to be able to reuse backpacks but the ones we got last year didn’t last us :(

Yes, we try to reuse. My middle school daughter is carrying her Lands End pack from last year. My younger daughter got one this year and hopefully will be able to reuse it. Now I just need one!
We will reuse backpacks until they can’t be used anymore, that’s why I love lands end, they will stand up to much abuse and still look great. :)
We don’t reuse, but we buy next year’s backpack just after the current school year starts when they are all on clearance.
We absolutely re-use our backpacks from year to year. I’ll buy a new one once there’s serious damage like a broken strap, or it’s really dirty.
We reuse by passing them down to other children

We haven’t had to use backpacks for school yet since my daughter is in preschool but she has one she takes with her places sometimes. I am positive we will reuse them though. I had a pair of shorts I finally gave to Goodwill when I got married at age 23 that I had had since I was 13, and yes I still wore them lol. They were long shorts and they wern’t torn up at all.
My kids range from 19 to 5. We have lots of book bags that come through this house. These hold up great and are well worth the money!
Yes, we definitely reuse backpacks!
We try to reuse everything as much as possible, including backpacks. With three within a few years of each other, reusing is just part of the program.
We TRY to use the same backpacks from year to year. Sometimes they hold up, sometimes they dont.
I had to reuse hand-me-down back packs of my sisters growing up. It didn’t really bother me though. Guess she always had good taste :-)
we reuse if we can
This will be my son’s 4th year with the same backpack :)
Yes, we reuse them. My older son has one from The Children’s Place that he used for three years. It’s still in good condition, but he managed to con a new one out of grandma last year. That one is from L. L. Bean and still looks brand new.
lands end make great book bags
We try to re use back packs! Many of them just don’t last.

I have neighbors with 3 kids and the Dad was just laid off. They could use the help with supplies.

We reuse backpacks. I still have my daughter’s Kindergarten backpack and she is in 9th grade now. My son uses it. It is a pokeman backpack and he loves it. Much sturder than ones that I find now.

We have been reusing backpacks for years. I learned early on to buy a quality backpack. I have three sons that are rough on everything. I have one that just graduated and used the same backpack for all four years of high school. He finally got a new one to go to college with this month.
My kids aren’t old enough yet for school but when I was in school and reused my backpacks until they were falling apart :)
We re-use backpacks, we re-use anything we can actually (:

We reuse our backpacks till tehy are outgrown or fall apart.
We reuse everything over and over — after using the last backpacks for over 2 years, we had to get new ones this year — but I could still find a use for a FREE backpack!!
I would love to re-use my backpacks, but most of them just haven’t held up!
My daughter is in preschool right now and has a cute Dora backpack on wheels. I haven’t heard yet but I don’t think they allow these bags in elementary school so we’ll need to get a new one. Sad to think we’re getting into the school supply phase.
My daughter is starting 4 year old preschool this fall. She has a tiny backpack from when she was in the 2 year old program, which we are going to re-use for our newest baby girl (due any day now!) for church! :)

We re-use backpacks when we can.
So far we have not been able to reuse from year to year – they are too worn out by then!
We reuse backpacks. Our Landsend backpacks have lasted since kindergarten — once, when a zipper caught on the material and would no longer work, Landsend replaced the item without additional charge.
We’re definitely re-users!
We use backpacks until they die. Had to replace both of my kids’ backpacks this year though. Waterbottle holders on the side were broken and straps falling apart.

I make sure the kids use backpacks until they are unusable or unsightly, then I pick out a new one that I’ve stored when they’ve went on sale! In fact, my daughter this year has decided that she’s going to carry my backpack that I used for college! (6 years ago!)
We reuse them! I bought them for my twin girls last years at the Old Navy outlet store for like $7.oo a piece and they are still in such great condition!! I will keep using them till they aren’t nice anymore!

we only buy a new one if it is ripped or totally worn out…luckily Staples has that free after staples rewards backpack every year-and the Jansport backpacks last a long time!
This is the 2nd year we’ve needed a backpack. My son will need a new one because he tried to turn his current one into a jet pack and cut wholes into it to try to make a button. Otherwise we would use it until it was wore out!

My youngest is in college now, but we do reuse backpacks!! We learned in “early” grades that buying cutesie ones was a waste both because they didn’t last and because they were often too small!
I went through high-school and college with the same Land’s End backpack. I still use the same one with my children today. That is about 18 years of use and it is still in perfect condition!!! I would absolutely ask my children to use the same one year after year with that kind of quality. I am sending my son off to Kindergarten this year and would love to surprise him with a new Land’s End backpack that will serve him well for years. Thank you for considering me!

I have a 3 1/2 year old, so I feel your pain as to how fast they grow! I am a student at Wright State so I actual am the one who uses the backpacks! The one I am using is actually my wife’s, but I accidently left a dozen crayons in the back pack, and the back pack for a few days in a hot car…you get the picture. Normally, I have used our backpacks until they die of natural causes!
My son has had the same backpack for Kindergarten and first grade. This year he said it was “embarrassing” and could I please get him a new one. He said that kids were looking at his last years backpack and asking why he did not have a new one.

I’m sorry I do not “tweet”. I am considering its merits, though.
My girls typically get a new one each year!
My son is just starting school, but we will use his backpack until it falls apart…
My son used the same one for 2 years in preschool but I did buy him one for kindergarten this year. I plan on using it for quite a few years though!
We reuse backpacks although, I did buy a new Hello Kitty backpack for my daughter starting kindergarten this year!
My kids get new ones each year. We do take the old ones and donate them, if they are in good shape.
Yes! We reuse backpacks!
We have always let him pick his backpack each year and gotten him a new one, but this year he was more than content reusing his from last year.

We reuse backpacks until they are rags. That is why we make sure to spend the money to get a good one.
We reused backpacks many years, especially from Lands End!
My kids get inexpensive backpacks each year!
I have raised 4 girls, most of which are adults. Did I re-use backpacks, YES!! Now I have adopted a little girl and she is entering Kindergarten this fall. Will I reuse backpacks for her? YES! If its still in great shape, why not? If its not in that great of shape, we can always use another bag for her take along toys, for when she visits her big sisters. We also have a set of foster twins that we use back packs for their “visitation” bags. They can be used for so much more than “just” school :)
Iam an email subscriber.
me! me! me! i’d love to get this backpack for my boy, who is enrolling first grade! i just got one jansport backpack for my eldest son, who is a fourth grader. i claimed that the backpack will last him until he gets to highschool. he looked bit skeptical, but i assured him that i had mine that lasted from my first year of college til few years ago. that was ’93! i have been wanting to try land’s end backpack, but haven’t found a super duper deal until this one, well not a deal, but a giveway! *crossing my fingers* that my 1st grader boy will get this one and last him til maybe middle school or even high school! one can dare to hope! :)
My daughter has always been able to reuse quality backpacks. You get what you pay for.
This will be the first year we need one.. A happy and sad time.
YES, we reuse backpacks each year. If they are still in good shape, why not? That’s why I like the durability of Land’s End!

Since she is in kindergarten we don’t know yet, but I plan on re-using this one if I get it.
With the price of how these items cost is is re-use with our family.
I reuse if it is not falling apart.
Yes – usually a new backpack every year.
We buy quality and reuse– it’s cheaper to buy a good product that’s more expensive than to buy a new walmart version every year. We learned this the hard way!
We use our backpacks again the next year if they are still good. The ones that are not good for school get used by the littles in our house for when they are playing.

We reuse our backpacks until they have holes/zippers break and need to be thrown away. One backpack I threw away this year lasted 4 years of preschool and 2 different boys.

We reuse if possible, but most the time I have to buy new. Time to buy better quality (at least for my girls so it can be passed down. My son doesn’t get hand me downs being the only boy).
yes when my son goes to school full time, im going to reuse til it wears out!

When I was younger, my brother and I always reused our backpacks until they were falling apart. When I have children, I plan to do the same thing!
Some years we were able to reuse but most years we had to buy new!
Our oldest son has had his since he started school so 4 years and our youngest boy has had his for 3 years. Our younger boy could use a new one. The zippers don’t close all the way. Well actually our oldest could get a new one and pass his down
Google reader subscriber!
My kids seem to be really hard on backpacks, so we generally have to have a new one every year and a half to two years. Would love to have one that lasts longer though. I had my college backpack for 10 years and just had to buy a new one on vacation when it finally died!
I am an e-mail subscriber and enjoy reading your updates. My son is reusing his backpack this year…we’ll see how it holds up!
My kids both started pre-school with Lands End backpacks. They are still in great shape but we got them new backpacks 2 years ago because they were a little too small. They will starting middle school with their one year old Lands End backpacks!
My daughter started pre-school with Lands End backpack and my son will be going to pre-school soon so I’d love to send him with one.
Yup – we reuse backpacks!
Yep – we definitely reuse backpacks in this house. We tend to run them into the ground. :)
my family does reuse backpacks, if it’s still good there’s no reason for a new one.
i wish we could, but usually at the end of school year it’s good only for garbage canister
we reuse them for camp and library and for holding sports- we use them till they wear down
I plan to re-use this year’s backpack.
We reused one for half day 3 year old class and half day preschool. We now get a new one each year since Kindergarten. The retired ones are used to carry toys to Grandma and Papa’s house.
My boys get a good three years out of their Land’s End Backpacks. I love them for that.

With 8 kids, 6 of which are in school, we definately reuse our backpacks :-)
We get a new one each year but keep the old one to use when we need a second each year. We go through backpacks like water!
Our daughter can use the same backpack for preschool this year that she did for day care, but she’s only bringing home a few papers, so that doesn’t say much. But, I agree, when she’s in school I’d be willing to pay a bit more for a better, rugged one that will last us!
I try to reuse my kids backpacks but sometimes they have broken zippers or the seams are coming apart.
I love that these are guaranteed for life!
Last year and this year is the first time that we’ve been reusing our backpacks. My oldest son takes good care of his, so he gets a couple of years out of them. But I did need to replace my 10 year old sons backpack each year.

The only backpacks we’ve ever be ABLE to reuse were Lands End. I wish I had been able to buy them for my younger kids this year.
We don’t reuse the backpacks for school but they do get turned into overnight bags or sports bags at the end of the year.
We reuse backpacks until they get threadbare. I carry an old Mickey Mouse backpack when I go out – why spend money on a new one when this one is still functional.
My son is too young for a backpack, but I remember using the same backpack all throughout high school!
I am a liker on FB!
We reuse backpacks if they are still in good condition. I try to buy ones that will last more than 1 school year. Some years I’m successful and other years I’m not. We could use a new one this year.

We re-use our backpacks unless its my son’s (he ruins his after a few months)
We started with good quality last year (one boy has LL Bean and the other Lands End) and yes, we will continue to reuse them until they can go no more. The Lands End on my younger one is especially nice that it has a grow with him height feature on the straps – I got it last year before he started Kindergarten for only $11 in the overstocks!

We reuse backpacks for a couple of years…then we use them for storage in the girls’ rooms. Barbies are now stored in the old rolling barbie backpack!
We try to reuse backpacks as much as possible! I won a Land’s End backpack last year and gave it to my son so you KNOW that we’ll be reusing that one! It’s still in PERFECT condition!

totally reuse backpacks :) thank can be quite expensive.
My daughter, just entering kindergarten, used a Land’s End preschool back pack for 2 1/2 years of preschool. It was light purple, so is a little dirty, but otherwise it is good as new. We did order her a bigger one for kindergarten and are getting her little brother a preschool sized (non purple!) one. Still I would love to win one, we’d probably put it aside for little brother’s kindergarten year!
My son does not use one yet, but we will definitely reuse :)

Ours NEVER look good enough to use another year or they tear up or a zipper breaks. :(

We don’t reuse backpacks; because, even with regular washings, they’re eventually destroyed.
We donate them to Goodwill each year and get new ones.. Thanks for the chance.

I’m too frugal to buy a new backpack just because it’s a new school year. Reusing is frugal, efficient and better for the planet. We did, however, have to toss one bag because of a large quantity of mustard that we couldn’t clean out. :) Long story….
I havent had to use a backpack over and over (yet) She is only 4, but I would say that even to keep extra school supplies at home would be one way to reuse it year after year.

I promised kids they could get new ones when they went into middle and high school. That’s just 3 per kid.
Last year, my daughter’s wore out midway through Kindergarten. I got a better quality one at that time and it is still fine.
I’ve had my current backpack for nearly 4 years and have no intention of buying a new one until this one falls apart. (Which is unlikely to happen soon – it’s a Timbuk2!)
We try to reuse each year. Last year we got a cheap character backpack that didn’t even last the whole year! This year we got a free Jansport from OfficeMAx and plan to use that until as long as possible.

Both of my boys reused their backpacks from last year for this year. The backpacks were still in excellent condition, so I did not really see the point of buying new ones. My oldest son wants a Raiders backpack instead of his current transformers backpack, but I told him that should go on his Christmas list.

We reuse backpacks if possible. Lands End a bag we can get a few years from. Unfortunately the last new backpack I bought the kids were rolling ones (LE of course) but we moved and their schools don’t allow rolling ones now.
We try to use what we have so as not to fill our landfills with more junk. It sure would be nice to win a new Lands End Backpack–my college son is currently using MY old Lands End backpack that I used in college!!

With 6 kids we have HAD to reuse backpacks all these years…but usually only get TWO years out of each. I try NOT to buy into the “fad” cartoony type that the kids get tired of or even embarrassed to re-use as they grow. I have 3 and only two needed new this year.

daughter hasn’t started kindergarten yet, but we got her a new one for preschool this year because the one she had (for church etc) was too small for folders. we shall see if this one holds up the year.

When I was a kid, I always had to reuse mine. I never realized until this year that people regularly buy their kids new ones each year! Really?
I am 33 years old and I still have the backpack I used in high school (15 years ago). They are still useable for years to come.
my son is on his third year of a pottery barn backpack and it still looks great
Our son is just starting school. I have a feeling we will be looking for sales each year and getting a new one for school and using the old one for home use. We never through away!
Yes we reuse ours until we have to buy another.
My Babygirl is only 4 so she will not be going to school (or what she calls Big Girl School) until next fall. She does go to pre-school and would love to have a backpack. It will be used to pack her blanket for nap time and her show and tell items. Yes, we will definitely be using it until it falls apart. I don’t see a reason to get a new backpack each year.

We definitely reuse backpacks…But I’m so cheap, I buy the $10 ones from Target and make them last a few years. This year, I upgraded to a $20 one, hoping to get it to last until Middle School! I’m pretty sure the Lands End ones hold up better…
This will be our 3rd year with the same backpack – he’ll get a new one next year, as it’s starting to fall apart. Lands End ones are great to reuse because they are such high quality!
My oldest will be using his backpack for the 3rd year. But, I think this will be it. The younger is using hers again as well. But, she’ll definitely be getting a new one next year for kindergarten… This one is just too small.
