#WinGiveaways | CengageBrain $150 Credit! {Closed}

I was very lucky as I was completing my degrees. I had a full scholarship covering tuition for part of one and a generous company tuition reimbursement program for another part. With both parts of school, my books were something I had to pay for myself. I quickly learned that college books are expensive. Even buying used at the bookstore was so much. I needed to find some way to save to avoid a large amount of student loan debt.

While I was finishing my degree and working, I started looking into purchasing textbooks online. It made complete sense as I was attending classes online as well (which was totally cutting edge just 10 years ago, but is just the norm nowadays). There are so many places available with this option but it was newer back then.

Now there is a new trend for providing affordable options for textbooks – it’s renting. Did you ever think you would hear that??!! Cengage Learning, the country’s second largest textbook publisher created CengageBrain to offer a textbook rental option. On CengageBrain.com, you will find more than 3,000 titles for rent. Some are up to 70% less than the retail price (aka, expensive college bookstore prices).

Because *some* college students may be last minute renters, it’s nice that the first chapter of the book is available in an e-book format. And, once the rental term is complete, it’s easy to either return the book. You can also purchase e-textbooks, individual e-chapters, audio books, and homework/study tools on CengageBrain as well.

I wanted to find something for Caleb to assist him with phonics and reading. After looking through the site I was overwhelmed honestly. There are truly so many titles. It’s easiest to go directly to either view selections by Category by clicking on Discover CengageBrain at the top. Or, you could just as easily enter the ISBN, Book Title or Author in the search option. This is likely what you would do if you are going to rent textbooks or if a teacher recommends a specific resource. You could find the resources much quicker that way than randomly searching.

If you are weirded out about ordering and renting online like this (like my mom always was when I finished school and ordered books online), this is truly an innovative option. I definitely think it’s a great way to keep school expenses lower.

There are also free resources on the site available under Study Tools. You must be logged into your account to be able to view the items. There’s a ton more info on the CengageBrain FAQ Page.

CengageBrain is providing me (1) $150 CengageBrain Credit (valid for one-time use) to give away. To enter in this giveaway, you have (4) forms of entry, which are:

Leave me a comment and tell me what routines you have for yourself, your kids, or you used to have for studying and getting homework done. Luckily T is a self motivated kid so he takes opportunities at school to finish up homework and unfinished class work. Caleb is another story all together. We have to have a planned time each day to get his work done or he could care less!

My kids have a quick snack after school and then any homework for that day, once completed they are allowed free time. We tried to have homework time after supper but that time of day ended up not working out for us.

Right after school we have a snack then do homework right away before play time so that it is out of the way and they are still focused.

Our routine: My oldest son is self-motivated and will do his homework on his own when he gets home from school (usually done at the sitter’s house). My youngest one is given a chance to play prior to doing his homework. He doesn’t have as much being as he will only be in 1st grade this year. He still has an assignment or two a week plus spelling and we study every night. After bathtime, I usually check homework while the kids are eating their bedtime snacks. We’ve tried nearly everything and this seems to work best for us.

For my homework, I do it whenever I get a chance…early morning, lunch hour, during football practice. It depends on the amount I have and the home/family schedule.

I give them 20 minutes snack time before they get started so they can stay focus and half way through give them a outside time break so they can get reenergized

My daughter is starting kindergarten this year. We don’t have a set routine yet, but I tried to read a phonics book with her or have her read a real book for 15 minutes a day. It is HARD to get her to focus sometimes.

Being that i’m a full time college student, work full time from home and take care of two children, I don’t have a routine. Its almost like I do my homework when I can. I usually wait until everyone is sleeping and need to stay up until all hours of the night. The kids, need to do their homework when they get home from school.

I already follw you on blogger. My kids learned to be responsible fortheir homework because I won’t nag about it. If it doesn’t get done then they live with the consequenses, get a bad grade, and get grounded and sit at home while their friends are out having fun. They only made that mistake a few times before they learned to get it done.

Routine at our house is take a break afterschool with a snack first and then hit the books BEFORE any sports activity starts. Honestly with 3 kids at 3 different “categories” it is hard to have a set FAMILY routine. But we do know…NOT tv or computer til homework is done!

    thanks!

I try to have a routine to get homework done with my ten year old. Due to her having ADHD and meds being out of her system it is hard to get homework done. Homework can sometime take us upto 2 hours. It gets done, but I have to allow her time to take a break otherwise we both get fustrated and nothing gets done.

I have always been kind of a cram studier, which works for me splendidly (yet surprisingly). I’m a graphic design student, and I don’t have all the necessary programs to get some work done. So, I always use my time wisely at school, barely taking breaks as I work on homework, staring at a computer. :P Those that I can do at home, I try to get them out of the way or go back and forth between work and online-browsing.

We make a point of letting the kids play for awhile after school – to help ease having been cooped up all day. After dinner and their help cleaning up the table, the sit back down to do their work. I don’t think they are self-disciplined, but they know that they will loose privileges if the school work isn’t satisfactory and/or grades drop.

My daughter is only 2, but we take time each morning and afternoon to do Kumon workbooks and have fun learning the alphabet and numbers. She really loves it!

My kids always did their homework, mostly my daughter. Sometimes I had to push my son a little.

I carve a little time out each morning to study while the kids are still asleep and then if I need to, I’ll do more after they’re in bed for the night.

Both my sons work and go to school-so they do their studying quite a bit at night.
My daughter does her homework at school. After chilling out for about an hour when she gets home from school-that’s when she does hers. Sometimes I have to “nag” at her :)

I have my kids in a routine that when they come home from school they eat a snack and then sit down for homework and reading. I sit with them to make sure they are doing their work correctly. My husband who is taking classes online is very disciplined in his studies. He is a week ahead of the curriculum becuase he takes time every night to study and do homework in advance.
