What a fun week of giveaways we are having!! It is like one week-long party, and you know what? The party must go on! In the last few weeks, I have had the exciting duty of test-driving one of our awesome giveaways for this week. I mean someone HAD to do it!
During the past few weeks, I have been trying out the Acer Timeline X, with an Intel i5 processor, simply stated: fast and fun! I have to confess that I am not a gadget junkie, I leave that to the hubby. I do think I have found a new passion for it in the Acer. I have been amazed at: the speed of the processor, the light weight feel (since I carry it almost everywhere), and the battery life (hmm, like 8 hours), not to mention so many other qualities. Love it!
An important aspect to highlight is the Intel turbo boost available on the i5 and i7 processors. Simply put when performing multi tasks at the same time the processors “boosts” up to make the machine more efficient and process faster. When performing a simple task like emailing the machine powers down to save battery life. This allows you to function on the battery for a longer time.
I personally enjoy this aspect as someone on the go, because I don’t have to keep plugging up the laptop every few minutes. I can work efficiently on the battery alone for a longer period of time wherever I go! Very helpful!
I have mentioned before that my husband and I have worked with college students for several years, so we have had significant exposure to their school workload. I believe that the Intel/Acer Timeline can meet those needs and is a great pick for all you Back to School parents. Students use computer/laptops for multiple purposes, might as well buy one that can meet all of their needs! But no worries, in the end you might just WIN one! Woohoo! I know you will love it!
If you are like me, in the past my only question with computers and laptops is,” Does it work and can I get on the internet?”(If that tells you anything about my tech savviness). But thanks to my hubby (aka “gadget guy”) and a few others, over the last year I have started working on becoming more computer savvy. I mean they are an investment of our hard earned dollars, so we want to make sure that we get the most bang for our buck, right?
As you head out this fall, I wanted to share a few tips for helping you with your Back to School computer purchases:
Asking the right questions: The most important question to ask is what you want the computer to do for you. That in itself can determine the kind of computer/laptop will meet your needs. Intel for example has 3 different processors that can preform to meet your needs, the i3, i5, and i7. Respectively, the i3 is their entry level model, the i5 is a step above which enables you to do several things at one time without slowing down, and the i7 is more for specialty needs: such as film editing and high graphics gaming.
Review, Review, Review!: I am an analyzer by nature and before making any big step I want to make sure that it is the best decision with the info that I can gather. My husband has gotten me hooked on Cnet, a reviewing site for all things electronic. We have used Cnet for a multitude of purchases and I would definitely suggest using them as you contemplate your computer/laptop purchases. They compare them to other computers and they also give you both the pros and cons of products as a third party individual. I really appreciate all the aspects they cover, as a consumer.
Getting the Most: If you are like me you want the best bang for your buck! Computers are not cheap, so when we purchase one we want to get the best quality that we can afford and one that will be around for a while! One way to think about it is like when we purchase our milk at the grocery store. Most of us look for the latest expiration date so our family can enjoy it for a longer period of time. Think the same way with you computer purchase, you don’t necessarily just want the cheapest. Computers are an investment, consider getting the best quality that you your budget will allow. By doing this it is like getting a later expiration date on your investment!
If you’re into social networking, you can follow Intel on Twitter!

My tip… I let my husband pick it out!! It has worked so far.
I don’t have a tip, i always turn to my old IT guy from an old job.
I check out the reviews on the Amazon website before I make any electronics purchase. They can be very helpful.
My advice is to get help from someone else with more computer knowledge. Last time I purchased a computer, I enlisted the IT guys from work to help me out. They know a lot more than I do about computers.
my best tip…ask my computer geek husband :)
Find a IT-savvy friend and let them help you! Has always worked for me =)
I “like” you on FB
Best computer buying tip is research it! There is so much info out there
These giveaways are so awesome!!!!
I let my husband do the computer shopping. He knows more about them than I do!
Look for lightweight laptops
I have never bought a computer,I have had this old computer of my husbands that he built for 10 years!!I would love to have the opportunity to go and buy one,I would want to really look into the computers before investing and I think I would shop around at different stores comparing prices and all that.

I have been told when shopping for a computer, get what you need for now..especially in laptops because they only last about 3-4 years. I am really interested in your new find… love the idea of 10 hour battery life.

My Computer buying tip. Research over the summer and buy in the Back to school season! We have done that 2-3 times and we get the best deals. A lot of the time that have “Packages” and you can get the computer, and other acessories like wireless mouse, extra battery, etc… !
I read Consumer Reports!
Liked and shared on Facebook
My tip would be not to over buy. If you don’t game or use really elaborate software, you’d be fooled by all the bells and whistles.
I am a liker on FB!
I let my son pick it out.. he knows waaay more than I do about computers!
My tip is to get the most RAM possible within your budget. I believe it’s the key to having your applications run smoothly and quickly.
When purchasing a new computer I usually browse sites such as pcmag & amazon to get reviews from experts & consumers both.
My tip is to buy what you need, but not more than you need.
I follow on facebook
My best computer tip is read the reviews and ask friends and family!
My tip….I let my husband pick it out for me…
Make friends with your IT professional at work. If nothing else, they can take quick glance at the specs on something you’re looking to buy and tell you whether or not it’s a good deal. Or…they might even hook you up with a deal they know of!
LOOK it over and LOOK it over again. I purchased mine and didn’t get to check it out as much as I needed to and now I don’t have all the features my last one had
I don’t really have tip…my husband is the one that does that. But we check prices everywhere including Costco and Sams to find the best price.
I subscribe to your emails. Love your blog!
My tip is to compare not just the product and price but also the different sales. Our last computer we were able to buy for half price rather than full price at the store just down the road. It was not a widely publicized sale so it paid to ask!
I subscribe to emails.
Great Information on looking at laptops. We have been looking because I have an old laptop that is a family one but I have started homeschooling my two boys, 6th & 8th grade, and we are in need of another one for their lessons. Of course they will have to share with mom because I love to look at couponing websites several times a day.
My tip – only buy what you need. It’s easy to get sucked into buy programs for your computer that you don’t need.
Go to big name computer stores near tax refund time and they usually have some killer deals to get rid of last years extras and most of the time they have a nice rebate offer. Just make sure to look at the reciept because it doesn’t have a long time before the rebate expires and if you haven’t sent it in on time then you lose out.
I subscribe!
I follow you on facebook and shared the giveaway!
I check reviews from other computer geeks before I buy. I have 2 very good friends who know computers inside and out and I defer to them first then look at price.
My tip is to stick with brands you know – don’t go for an unknown brand because it’s really cheap. You get what you pay for.
I agree with many of the other posters…don’t overbuy! The first laptop I bought I made a list of everything I wanted to do on the computer and based on that I was able to research and get the best deal for my money.
Do your research beforehand. The “techs” at most big box stores and just there to sell you the most expensive thing they can
I follow you on facebook, we look in lots of stores for the best price.
It is so easy to get pulled into the “hype” when buying electronics. You need to think about what you want the computer for before buying one. If you don’t need all the extras, you can save quite a bit of money!
Processor size so you can multitask
I just shared the giveaway on facebook! (I, of course, already “like” you on fb!) :)
My tip – buy a Mac for your “primary” computer. We have a 2 yr old MacBook and it is wonderful. We also have a cheap PC laptop (basically a netbook but w/ a CD/DVD drive) but the Macbook is our primary computer.
shop around when buying a computer and ask every store what specials they have…they may just give you a special that’s starting tomorrow
I would say pick what you are wanting to do with your laptop and choose one accordingly.
my tip…stick with a brand you know. We have always used Dell and they have always served us well. Good customer service is the key.
i ‘like’ you on facebook
i subscribe to your daily emails. thanks for all your hard work.
My tip is to go on-line (don’t forget you can access the internet at your public library) and utilize the compraison tools available. Visit all the local office supply stores, and the name brand webistes too (dell, hp, mac, etc.). Right now or I think near Christmas time is an awesome time to purchase your computer. Lots of good deals out there and remember, don’t purchase programs you don’t need. There are so many programs available on-line for free. Happy shopping :)
My husband is the one that picks out our technology, but my biggest contribution is to scale down … Asking if we Reeeally need that capability, so that we can keep the costs within budget !
I am also signed up for email updates! Love it. One of the most anticipated emails I receive daily. I tell everyone about the site and to use it. Thank you for all that you do!
Oooooh. I actually AM a gadget junkie. I’d love to have this.
And I already subscribe.
Check the weight – if it’s too heavy, you won’t bring it anywhere!
My husband works in the computer field, so I rely on him to know the good deals for buying computer stuff. But just like the lady whose husband is a plumber and she has leaky pipes in her home, our home is that last to get computer stuff bought or fixed. I guess our guys are tired of their work at the end of the day and don’t want to see another pipe or computer. So we could really use a new latptop where my husband doesn’t have to spend any time hunting for the best deal.

My best tip is take my husband. He know what to look for. :)
I tweeted about this giveaway.
I would love to be able to give this to my hubby for our anniversary! Thanks!!
My best computer tip is, wait until after nap or bedtime to even try to concentrate on anything on the computer.
I would suggest that you know what you are going to use it for and buy accordingly. Don’t go for all the bells and whistles if you won’t be using them.
My tip is to do your research before you buy. This is a big item and you want to make sure you are getting everything that you want and need before you buy.
I am a liker on facebook! http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/bethanyanne86?v=wall&story_fbid=140068576028486 Thanks!!
Just keep it to the minimum. Sometimes all the bells and whistles get in the way!
I follow you on twitter and I tweeted! http://twitter.com/ROAOM/status/21400602588 Thanks!!
Shop at home, no pressure and you can compare all deals.
My best computer-buying tip applies to everything else you can buy online too – read the online reviews! :)
Best tip for buying a computer that I can come up with is to make sure you know where to take it when it’s broken.
When buying a computer I look for speed, quality, brand name, and price. This would be so awesome to win, thanks so much.
I follow on Twitter and shared the giveaway:http://twitter.com/lipstickncandy/status/21400712644
I continue to like you on facebook.
I look for quality and price.
My best tip: Get a good sound card. It’s amazing the difference a good sound card can make, especially if what you’re doing on the laptop involves a lot of listening.
I ask my husband! He knows all about computers.
Determine what you absolutely NEED in a computer – then list out your WANTS! Know your budget and get as much as you can for your money. Then SHOP AROUND!
I would give the lap top to my sister in law — for more reasons than there is space to put!
I would love to have another laptop so my girls are not fighting all the time! :)
I recieve your e-mails
I “like” you & I shared the giveaway.
I get email updates.
I buy computers from Costco to take advantage of the Costco Concierge service – free problem solving.
My best computer buying tip is….ask someone who knows a lot about computers to come with you. Store clerks can talk you into SO much “stuff” that you don’t need.
I’m an email subscriber!
My best computer buying tip is to leave it to the husband who is gadget savvy!!!!
Ask yourself …exactly what am I going to use this computer for?
wow what a wonderful giveaway.
I am subscribed to your email updates and look forward to following you on this website!
We always decied exactly what we are going to be using the computer for before buying so we can get the best deal for our money without getting alot of extras we won’t use.
I would love to have this for my 7th grader!
My advice is to read the reviews about the computers.
Just like a car, when you go to look, expect NOT to buy, shop around!
I’m an e-mail subscriber!
My tip would be to decide what the most important feature of the computer is to you; what you will use your computer for most. Then shop according to that. If you are a gamer, there are computers geared towards that, but if you use your computer just for Facebook & couponing, then all those gaming bells & whistles are a waste. :)
Here’s a great tip: Always make sure your kids have their own computers.
My best tip is ask around to find out pros/cons of computers you are looking at buying, and take your hubby with you to help translate all the computer language.
I like you on facebook!
Last time we bought one (quite a while ago) we waited till the Thanksgiving/Christmas season when they go cheaper.
I am an email subscriber!!
I don’t have a computer buying tip because I leave it up to my husband.
Don’t buy more computer than you need. Most people need just the basic system for e-mail, surfing the web, word processing etc.
Just signed up for the daily email! Can’t wait to start getting them, I love your stuff on facebook!
My best computer buying tip – let my spouse handle it:). He is our home IT expert. Seriously though – search through the wealth of info on the web, then go test drive some things in stores.
I follow you by email.
I always look at price first & then check the features.
I usually let my husband take care of our computer buying needs …. I think he uses slickdeals to find the best deals
I also folllow you on Facebook.
My computer buying tip would be to use Consumer Reports to see what computers are rated highest and which ones are the best value.
Computer-buying tip? No idea, my husband deals with all of that.
I would love to have a laptop so that I may use that instead of the PC.
It would be great to have it in the kitchen- thanks!
I don’t have any buying tips but I need them!! Need to get a new computer for the house. Thanks for the giveaway!
We tend to buy a computer with a little more than we need so it will last us longer.
I leave comuter buying to my husband, he’s the smart one!

I always look at what kind of processor is in it, and how big the harddrive is. The bigger the better and the longer it will serve its purpose.
i found out the best way to look for a new computer is that i have a computer guy who is very helpful to me in the past by explaining how each computer is different and the best things to look for a computer
My best computer tip? I always consult my techie friend whenever I consider buying ANY piece of technology. He’s always up to date on the latest and greatest and he can always steer us to what’s best for us.
I’m already a subscriber.
I’m also an email subscriber.
I subscribe to email and follow on FB….and I leave all the tech purchases to the husband! :)
My best tip is to keep kids with food & drinks AWAY from the computer!
best tip – shop around for best prices
I have learned to ask my IT department. They deal with so many random computers – work issued and personal ones trying to access our servers that they know which ones are bunk and which ones are worth the money.
My best computer buying tip would be to talk with those who know computers better than you do. I don’t know much about computers–which ones are made the best or work the best, have functions that are really handy or useful. But my brother & Dad do! So I pick their brain before I go computer shopping :)

My best buying tip is to match your needs to what you are purchasing. All computers on the market are more than sufficient to handle basic tasks. Unless you are going to be doing some really intensive activities on your computer, you do not need to most expensive one out there.
I consult a friend that knows alot about computers
We always shop online for the best deals.
My husband finds what he wants and then does price comparisons on line to get the best price.
I always research the Internet before buying anything big. Amazon reviews, CNET, whatever I can read before I buy to get the best deal and the best product is always time well spent.
I leave it up to my husband (an IT Director). = Let someone knowledgable in that area help you.
Make sure your computer has at least a GIG of RAM.

I always have my Dad help me. He is a wealth of knowledge on computers and techie stuff. He does the research and pretty much tells me what my options are and what he would do if it was him
I always find the best deals on computers around Thanksgiving and Christmas when the prices are low. If you get to Best Buy early you can get a great deal.
i find the sales at the office supply stores have been my best deals

I use the internet to research computers before I buy.
My best computer buying tip is do ALOT of research before you go. They will try to sell you anything!
My best computer buying tip is to consider where your family is right now and what you’ll be using it for. I’m in need of a laptop for school and the Best Buy computer dude actually talked me out of buying a MacBook Pro from their apple store. Why? Because we have 3 small boys who are not above dumping a cup of whatever on a laptop and I really only need a laptop that will allow me to write documents and make a powerpoint presentation or two. We ended up saving ourselves a lot of money!

I look for speed in buying a laptop…and storage space. I keep soooo many pictures on my computer, its absolutely necessary.
My suggestion for getting the best deal would be to determine which brand/model you are most interested in and then compare, Compare, COMPARE prices to get the best deal. A simple google of the model number will usually turn up a wealth of buying options. Now, if I only had a new Acer computer with the speed and reliability to make this happen … hmmmmm :-)
I ask my kids their opinions before going shopping. Not computer savvy so we depend on the younger generation.
Shop sales and get a lot of memory!

I don’t know a whole lot about computers and such, but I read a lot of reviews and do a lot of online research before I buy.
My best computer buying tip is to enlist a computer junky (my brother-in-law in this case) to find one for you.

My best advice is to make sure you have plenty of RAM…my young teen homeschooled daughters saved their hard-earned allowance to buy computers for school use. They had plenty of memory but not enough ram to run the operating system…slow right out of the box and could only get slower after adding programs. Total life lesson from the school of hard knocks.
my hubby scours the internet looking for reviews of products before he buys. I trust him when he says he’s found the right one – he’s usually spent a couple hours searching!

I always go to walmart they have the best prices on computers
I don’t really know any tips for computer buying, since I’ve never bought one, but I soooooo need a computer!!! I am having to use my office computer, which is a no-no, of course! My husband has a laptop but he has to have it for work all the time, and I need a way to go online to do my bargain hunting, coupon printing, facebook viewing, photo uploading, etc.!!!! I sooooooo need to win this!!!
Craigslist is where I was able to buy my 3 kids “new” desktops last year for Christmas. I was able to find them for each less than a hundred dollars and all my husband had to do was install bigger hard drives for future use. A notice a lot of people will let a perfectly good and still update pc go for cheap because they have to have the latest technology. I see amazing deals all the time!
I ask my computer guru neighbor to help translate all the computer speak.
I subscribe through yahoo reader.
I shop around, use a coupon with a sale if at all possible even when buying a computer!
Thank you!

I’d say my best advice is to read online reviews carefully for the feature that are most important to you. Problems like overheating can’t be easily solved, while “too heavy” might not be one of your problems.
Umm…computer buying tip? I have no idea! My brother builds computers, so I just tell him what I want and he builds it! Kinda nice, but I have no clue!

The best tip I can give about buying computers is to shop around. Use Dell Outlet sales… they have awesome deals! And buy in January/February when Christmas has passed and there are lots of places trying to get rid of older model computers.
My best advice would be to shop around alot!!! Especially during back to school time and christmas.
My favorite computer buying tip is to know what the main purpose is for your computer. Do you want a computer for gaming, homework, or just internet access.

I would love a new computer since mine is about to die :)
I think a great time to buy is during tax free time.
I search the newpaper ads on Saturday for good deals and am usually the first in line when the doors open on Sunday. They normally only have 1 or 2 of the sale items at each store and so you have to grab them quickly.

We are looking at getting a laptop and are looking for one that will not be too heavy for our 8 year old twins to hold for homeschool. Also making sure that we can get a cooling fan to fit one to extend the life of the laptop.
my best tip is if you’re buying apple make sure to check the macrumors buyers guide before buying.
Best tip: Sufficient memory & preloaded programs of what you need…
I’ve never actually bought a computer. My husband always did and I wasn’t with him when he did. He just brought them home.
Set a budget for the computer and stick to it!
Best tip: don’t let hubby go by himself to buy because he will spend way too much
Don’t buy the cheapest computer out there. You don’t have to “go for the gusto” & get the best, but find one that suits your needs (higher memory, good speed, etc). Thanks! =)
I am a FB & have posted about the giveaways! =)
I look for memory and speed.
it is time for my second child to get a computer for school…what a better way than to win it

Don’t buy one, win one!
We usually get our new computers on black friday.
Look for a PC that can hold massive amounts of pics you take of your kids and their music you download.
I believe getting a quality antivirus program and protection is very important…..your computer is no good if it gets a virus or crashes…protect it.
My best tip – talk to my husband!
Make sure that you are getting a computer with enough speed. You can always by more memory cheap.

My computer buying tip – I bought my iMac 2 years ago in August, during back to school time. Because they were having such great deals for students, I was able to get a FREE Hp printer and a FREE iPod Touch after mail-in rebate! We always buy refurbished from reputable sources. You know if it is refurbished someone who knows about computers has made sure it is in great working condition. As opposed to the factory workers who are just assembling them, and then they get a little quality test. Good refurbised sources will not stay in business if the products do not work.
My best computer buying advice its to buy one around during Back to School Sales or around Thanksgiving or Christmas and always haggle the price If the store is wanting to get rid of the computer they won’t mind bargaining

research and time–bit no too much.
research, but not too much
My best computer buying tip? Find a very computer savvy but penny-wise person to take with you! They know what are the most important features, HOW much memory/speed/etc you truly need and what is the best bang for your buck. But because they are a thrifty person they won’t say things like “oh just upgrade” or “you should totally get the bigger monitor!”. Plus having someone there to ground you so you won’t get sucked into the salesperson’s tactics to get you to upgrade to a more expensive one!
I am following you and tweeted this

We can sometimes get an extra discount buying through my husband’s work. They offer employee benefits on certain items at times, such as computers, cell phones, etc..

Best Computer buying tip is make a list of the things you currently like or dislike about your current system. Then look at the features offered by multiple computers companies. I also like to take some time and pick the brain of some people who know computers. I’m not really one to take the word of sales associates at big box stores, though do encourage their input just to see what else I can find out. Then pick what you want and comparison shop online for the best deal.
I like to look out for special savings or promotions around back to school time or black friday. Also, sometimes ordering from some of the home shopping networks is a good idea, because for the same price that you would pay in the store, they usually include a bundle of software that is worth a few hundred bucks or more for free.
We usually follow slickdeals – they always have a lot of tech deals!
Would be such a blessing to win
My best tip is research. Know what you are buying or have someone else who knows computers help you.

I always go in well researched in what I want to buy. This way I already have it picked out before a salesperson can try and talk me into something else.

My tip is for families with little ones. Read the fine print before investing in an extended warranty. Buying one is a good idea only if they cover damage- kids are rough on laptops. Despite your best efforts, at some point your little one will get their hands on the computer. If the warranty doesn’t cover damage, don’t buy it.
Finally subscribed to your email updates. Glad I waited for a great giveaway!
One of the things to be sure you get is the dvd rom drive. Don’t assume they come with it. It will definitely be more expensive to add one later or add an external one. P.S. Hubby found out the hard way.
i would make a list on what i need and want before buying

My best computer tip is to make sure you get one with enough memory. Make sure you understand what the computer is going to be used for and find a computer that fits your needs. Gaming, music, video, homework, powerpoints, are just some of the things I use my computer for so I wanted one the suited my needs.
A 32 bit operating system can only reference a maximum of 3.2 GB of RAM, so unless you’re getting a 64 bit system don’t overpay for memory.
my tip is to shop at all the stores possible
I am a Facebook fan.
I only wish I had computer-buying tips! Macs simply don’t go on sale. I guess my tip would be: learn how to use PCs, and you can shop around!
I would love to use it for my daugther. She is 6 and non-verbal and she is learning to type at school to communicate with us.
The most overlooked specs for a computer are memory and hard drive space. Don’t underestimate the hard drive – get the largest you can afford. And get the biggest memory your computer can accommodate. At least 4GB RAM memory- more if your computer can support it & you can afford it. It’s amazing what a boost having extra RAM can be for your computer. –From a Network Administrator

My tip is to do your homework. There are so many computers and laptops out there … it really does pay to know about and understand the features being offered, the warranty policies, etc. One you’re clear about what you want, you then can compare prices. I’d also say to check online … many times prices are better online.
I’ve always had hand me down computers but if I was going to buy new I would look for aomething with alot of RAM, a fast processor & a huge hard drive for storage

Best tips 1. Shop Around 2. Read Reviews 3. Only get what you Need for it to do (I.E. if you don’t burn CDS or DVDS- it may not be worth another $50.) 4. DO NOT let them install the anti-virus for 75$ plus the product- it’s simple enough to do yourself. 5. A COOLING PAD is a great accessory for laptops.
thanks for the chance!

My best tip is don’t go whole hog on new, untested tech. Get what you need, and maybe a little bit better. Don’t get suckered into software bundles that have a buch of junk yo don’t need, and add to the price of the machine. Also, think about what components you can keep off the ‘puter you already have and save money that way.

I shop around for the best deal when buying a computer.
It’s been over 4 years (pre-kids) since I bought my last laptop, on which my 3.5 yr old & 2 yr old have learnt everything they know about computers!! I look for the most memory my money can buy, processor speed, included software & peripherals. Weight is also key for easy travel. I usually don’t purchase one w/ MS Office pre-loaded as I buy that on my own – usually cheaper to purchase it yourself & have all the software available in case it needs to be re-installed.

If you are shopping for a laptop, remember, you are going to be lugging that thing around a lot. Pick it up before you buy it.
My tips:
When it comes to laptops, get the best you can afford. You definitely don’t want to be a stingy sort with buying a new laptop, a cheaper model will be more trouble than it’s worth.
When it comes to desktops, invest some time into learning how to build your own PC. It’s a lot of fun, not too hard to learn, and for the money you can build higher quality than you can buy.
I have bought a few computers in the past ten years and I just look for a sale priced computer that can do the basics, I never need anything fancy
My best computer buying tip is to ask all the people I trust of their opinions, then I decide!
My best computer tip is to RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH before you go to buy a laptop, look at consumer reviews see what people who have had this type of computer for a while how they like it, is it giving them trouble. Research the computers that you are looking at see if they are worth purchasing! Don’t just in the heat of the moment go buy a laptop by all means do your research!!!

Don’t get too caught up in specs–buy a computer for what you need. If you mostly surf the web and write documents, don’t worry about buying a top of the line gaming machine.
I like to research online what I am specifically looking for (Brand, Features, etc) and compare prices against different websites to find the best deal available. Also checking tech blogs for information is helpful too.

I’ve actually got 2 tips:
1 – buy as much computer as you can afford (memory, processor speed, disk…), it will last you longer
2 – once you figure out what you want, shop, shop, shop, shop and decide what price point you want to target! When you see it there, JUMP ON IT!!!
do tons of research before you buy

make sure you have a good processor and ram, speed is key!
Buy a computer without the monitor to save money!
Always buy on black Friday, day after Thanksgiving, and buy ONLINE! That is the best day for deals, and that way you can shop in your pj’s with no lines.
Shop online, those are normally the best deals.
I look for a brand that’s well known and then I go for lots of memory… to handle the family photos.

I prefer to build my own desktop but when it comes to buying a laptop look at the processor(1st), Memory- Ram(2nd), and video card or hard drive. Depends on what your needs are… Gamers – video, Work/Personal – Hard drive.
If you are buying a desktop as a replacement for a desktop, consider only buying new cpu components and keeping your keyboard, mouse and monitor. You can also just by the parts and put them in your current tower (if they are compatible, a computer hardware expert as a friend is very helpful to have).
price compare – it’s amazing how much difference in price there is for the same computer!

I already like Mommy Snacks on facebook and I already subscribed to your e-mails. I love your blog and it is so helpful to me!
I “like”d you on FB! Helpful information for buying new computers is to remember more expensive may mean better, but doesn’t mean the technology will be “up-to-date” longer. Technology changes so fast that it will be outdated by the time you buy it. Memory and processing speed should be paramount over the hard drive space. Also, price shop online and make sure it truly meets your needs not just your budget.
My tip… take your time to find what you want and need, then be patient enough to get it at your price point.

tip – always check for the online price at your favorite online discount store before you buy!
Buy when it’s on sale.
Decide what you want and then keep watching the prices at all the stores and wait for the price to drop. Thanks.
My best computer buying tip is to do lots of research online, and especially watch out for how good customer service is – it doesn’t matter if they offer a 1 or 2 year warranty if they refuse to fix it, or insist you spend hours on the phone with them first.
My best tip would be to spend the money to get the best so that you don’t feel the need to buy a new one in a year.

The best tip I could give anyone on buying a computer would be to buy a computer suited for your needs. My mother spent a boatload on one of the fastest computer on the market. I think it was made for hard core gaming, and it cost over a thousand dollars. She uses it to send e-cards and shop on e-bay. She could have spent less four hundred dollars and still had all the functions she needs.

At the time I purchased this computer (which is a desktop), I had researched PC magazine (a HUGE book) and other magazines – yes, I had no computer prior to that time and this computer is VERY OLD – but it gets me by. I am enjoying reading other comments and look forward to owning a computer that is modern, sleek and actually works on a regular basis rather than shutting down for some error that occurs. I have been lucky, however, with no viruses (knock on wood) as I guess these new ideas can’t destroy the old stuff – people have gone on to contaminating the modern programs. Thanks for sharing all the great ideas!

I would Love to win this laptop it sounds awesome!! My tips for buying a computer are 1) make a list of your needs and must have features and another list of the bells and whistles you would like then start researching models and prices based on that. It is easy to get sucked in to a lot of features that you don’t really need. They add up! 2) get recommendations from friends and tech saavy people 3) know how much you can really afford to spend!
My computer tip – buy a wireless mouse. It’s so much easier. We bargained with the salesman at Best Buy and he included it with the computer free!

First thing when shopping around for a computer, obviously is know what you want. The best tip I can give is shop via internet. Check deal sites first. They will generally give you the lowest prices out there in the world wide web, saving you much time! Also price comparison sites are great because you can type in the product that you are looking for, and the site will tell you not only the prices for each store that carries it, but also reviews for both the product and the store it’s coming from. Also keep in mind what you’re going to be using the computer for, if you’re just looking for something to surf the web or do some daily blogging, skip the bells and whistles that can really up the price for something you don’t need and will probably never use.
My best tip is DON’T buy the extended warranty. They usually cost you lots of money and don’t cover very much. Also, I don’t usually go for more computer than I need.
I liked you on FB
I tried to sign up for you newsletter but the FeedBurner link was not working
Only buy as much computer as you need. If you at a later time determine you need more, upgrades and newer computers will be much cheaper later on.
Hmmm, my best computer buying tip? Compare, compare, and compare some more! That’s what I do. You can never have enough information. Thanks so much for the chance! This would be a dream to win – my current computer is a netbook and well, I really need a better main computer.

Most people don’t need cutting-edge technology. You can save a lot by buying slightly dated tech.
I am not particularly computer savvy myself, but I do have a friend who is a computer whiz, so I always consult with him before making any computer purchase. Thank you for the amazing give-away.
The best tips I have are to shop around price match (usually they also give10% difference) and use either store or competitor coupons (if avavilable). Hope this helps someone!
I messed up on my email address earlier. i would like to enter the contest though.
My best tip is to not get swayed by all of the bells and whistles. Know what you need a computer for and focus on a computer that will be able to fill those needs. Do you really need the absolute fastest processor and state of the art graphics if you aren’t a gamer? Probably not, and buying focusing on needs instead of vanity items you can get a good computer at a reasonable price.

Take the time to research what product will best suit your specific needs. If you’re a photographer who loves to really spend time editing/perfecting their photos, you don’t need a fancy gaming computer! Likewise, if you’re a gamer, you don’t want a stripped down, basic model that has just enough RAM to run Microsoft Office! Research, research, research!

Figure out what you need as far as features go. Go to consumer reports & read reviews on individual computers.
Not being a computer expert, I would compare features online, then look for sales.
The best computer tip i can give is read, read reviews of the computer you are going to buy. I always find it very helpful learning what others think about the computer that I am thinking of buying because they share problems that they encounter.
Check out Consumer Reports for the best computers.
My best computer buying tip is, if buying online, to check for coupons (retailmenot.com) and also use rebate sites like shopathome or mrrebates or ebates to get cash back.
There are many factors you’ll need to look at before forking your hard-earned cash. Things like CPU, memory, hard disk space, sound cards are essential factors to consider when selecting the system. Mostly, find out what your going to be using it for. This will tell you what you need to buy and how much to spend.

I definitely wouldn’t buy on impulse – Buyer’s Remorse may set in.
Do a little research on a few models you have in mind. Know what you want to use the computer for, what programs you want to run and be sure the computer includes the proper parameters.

My main criteria for a computer (or a car, HDTV, etc):
1. Quality product – not just a recognized brand name
2. Value for price – user friendly with all the features you need
3. Customer service/warranty – this can often serve as the tie-breaker
Purchase a new computer a month prior to the Back to School Rush. I know from personal experince that Best Buy marks up there computers by as much as $2oo the last 2 weeks before school starts.

Review Consumer Digest and Consumer Reports to see the pros and cons of the computer type you plan to check out. Then evaluate what specifically applies to you. Be very receptive to extreme negatives and extreme positives that will effect you.
I look for the ones with the best warranty. If they offer an excellent warranty probably not gonna be having any issues and i also look at what company has been around for long long time.

Print out specs on all computers that you’re interested in. Lay them side by side and compare them option for option. Call stores and ask for specials.
read revies about computers ty.
My best computer buying tips would be to avoid buying online and actually “test drive” a computer in-store to make sure it’s the right one for you, and to definitely comparison shop and, ideally, wait until a tax-free holiday to make the big purchase. Thanks!

Take someone with you who knows computers with you when you are ready to buy. I take my sister with me. She’s tech smart and is going to look out for me, going to make sure I get what I need at a decent price. It’s been 9 years since we have had a new computer, with tough times and all, but when I do buy my next computer, she will be there with me.

A lot of companies offer customer loyalty programs where you can get discounts with affiliated companies. Between that and looking for online coupons or promo codes, you can often get a good deal (usually directly from the computer manufacturer’s site). Actually think about what you will need or want your computer for.
Honestly, I am learning myself. I have recently started looking at laptops, currently we have one computer and 5 people. I am very frugal but my husband had talked me into spending $300 on a laptop. However, I realized real quick that $300 was not enough. I found out that you really need a dual processer which now bumps your price up to $500 or more. Needless to say, we do not have a laptop.
Thank you for the entry,
Nikki
Look up computers that fit your needs before you hit the store. Have a pricing guide with you so you know what is a good price and what isn’t.

My tip is to know what you are looking for and to do some research before you go to the store.
I am subscribed for your daily updates.
Research is key. Do NOT just go out and buy one. Ask someone who knows what they’re doing computer wise. Don’t let some sales person sell you something you don’t need
My only tip is to wait for a good sale, if you can, especially wait for just before the start of school.
Study a lot of different computers and prices online so when you go to buy one you know if you’re getting a good deal.
Make sure to do a lot of homework and shopping around so you know what you need in a computer and so you know the correct price range before you go to buy one so you get what you need at a good price.
Take a family member or friend who knows computers with you so you don’t get talked into something because you don’t know what’s what.
Shop around online because you can usually find the best prices online.
