Zip List Overview

Another post where I mention the blog conference. Sorry, some great things really do happen there (I just need to find time to share all of it).
Before the conference officially started, I was invited to learn more about a new company, ZipList [1]. I heard a bit about them from my friend, Erin of Coupon Cravings [2], and was excited at the little bit she was able to share. I am SO excited for this product for many reasons, but first let me share what it is.
ZipList [1] is a FREE online service to help you with efficiency at the grocery store. There is a Universal Recipe Box that allows you to save your favorite recipes from various websites. You can quickly add the ingredients to your online grocery list which is accessible online or via phone. That’s that in a nutshell, but there’s more…
There is also a texting feature. If you have a grocery item you need to add to your list, you can text ZipList. Through magic (and fairies, I’m sure there are fairies), ZipList adds the item to your list immediately. Your shopping list is also categorized automatically (i.e., dairy, canned, etc). That is SO nice to help you get in and out of the store more quickly. And with kids, you KNOW we need to go as fast as we can :)
There is also a ZipList iPhone app in the works. I’m so excited about this! While you can print out your list, I really do love taking advantage of the efficiencies technology offers. I do like to make any lists on my computer because it’s faster than entering via my iPhone. But, when I shop I can have my list and check off what I’ve bought. I’m such a list follower in that way. And, let’s face it when we use coupons we gotta be – it’s part of planning which is integral in saving the most!
The other part I mentioned that I think you will really love is the Universal Recipe Box [3]. I created the Virtual Recipe Box google doc [4] last year as a way to help me personally manage my fave recipes from all over the web. Well, ZipList will do it FOR YOU and has great features to help with efficiency. With the ZipList Recipe Clipper [5], you can enter any recipe found online (like my Homemade Noodles [6] possibly) to your personal recipe box. There are already thousands of recipes included in the ZipList searchable recipe database, but it’s nice to have the option to add your own!
I think the Universal Recipe Box will allow me to menu plan more effectively. I’m not sure *exactly* how the process will look for me yet since I need to load all of my recipes. But, the “Add to List” feature will help save time since I can quickly add missing recipe ingredients to my grocery list.
I really could go on and on, but I would encourage you to check out ZipList [7] for yourself. I really do think this will save you a lot of time as you create your shopping list and saving your favorite recipes. And, the fact that they are engaging bloggers to find efficiencies in what we do, and how you as readers (or me, as a user) would use ZipList, makes me even more excited.
As a heads up, here will be an official ZipList Twitter Party in March! As soon as I have more details, I will be sure to share with you as well!
**Giveaway now ended**
With all of THAT, I have five (5) Zip List Gift Packs to give away! Each gift pack includes a Blue Avocado Gro Pak Chill Insulated Grocery Bag (as shown above – so awesome too) and a copy of Martha Stewart’s newest cookbook, Everyday Food: Fresh Flavor Fast [8].
As a side note, ZipList was a sponsor of the Savvy Blogging dinner [9], and they gave attendees the Blue Avocado bags. They are completely awesome and will definitely be used as I shop with my ZipList!!
