Haiti Disaster Relief Options

To say we are blessed is an understatement.

As I have watched the news, many times I had to turn the channel because the images were just too much for me to view. The death, despair, hopelessness. The pain they are experience is overwhelming to my soul. I sat last night and thought about how our family could help. I so wish we could go to Haiti and I could hold babies, and cradle mothers who have lost their precious babes too. We can’t so we will choose to make an impact in the way that we can.

I literally woke my husband up at midnight last night (no joke) and told him what I felt called to do. This morning, I saw the email and subsequent post from Crystal at Money Saving Mom encouraging the blogosphere to make our collective efforts turn into something big.

With God all things are possible regardless of circumstances.

We have made great progress on our financial goals. We know the results are only because God has blessed us beyond what we could ever hope for (I tell people that whenever they ask me too) . Because of this, our family will be providing financial support. But, I need your participation. For any comment on this post, or blog link that is shared, we will donate $1 to Haiti Disaster Relief Efforts up to $500. And hey, if I get more comments and links, we will pray more and figure out what we are supposed to do .

We will be splitting our funds between Samaritan’s Purse and World Vision. However, there are so many other organizations who are providing funds directly for the devastation in Haiti. Remember, your donations to many of these organizations are tax deductible as well.

Times are tough. I know. I feel blessed to have this little blog for a multitude of reasons, but mostly because I feel it impacts people at a season in their life when they need it. Whether the help comes by offering information to help save money, prevent a bankruptcy or even providing a small amount of encouragement as I share about the season of our own life. The point is your emails and comments never go unnoticed and encourage me. I pray for each person I hear from. I don’t take this blog and my role lightly whatsoever.

During this time I am asking you to help in some way. That help can be in many forms: prayers, financial giving if you felt called to, or even volunteering time to put packages together at local organizations like the effort my local chapter of A Child’s Hope International/Kids Against Hunger is working to do.

Will you help?

Drop a Comment and share how you are helping (prayer, financial, volunteering – whatever). Tell your Friends to Comment. If you have an organization you are passionate about that is helping support the relief efforts, drop a link in the comments to the donation page. If you blog, drop your link below about your efforts to support the Haiti Disaster Relief Efforts. Again, each comment or link is worth $1 so this is in part a way YOU are helping too!

Most importantly, Pray. Pray Hard. God is the Great I Am. He can part seas. Multiply needs. Provide comfort. Act as the light of the world when devastation makes so many only see the darkness.

Update: Angela commented and shared that by texting the word Haiti to 90999. $10 will be charged to your cell phone bill with all monies donated to the American Red Cross!

Thank you!

The American Red Cross has a texting donation set up. It was so easy, I just had to do it. I texted “Haiti” to 90999 a couple of times and with each text donated $10.

Our hearts are broken for the people of Haiti. Ten weeks ago we brought home to precious boys from Hait and our hearts are heavy for those we know in that country. We are raising support for our orphanage and lifting them all before our King.

My children and I are going to organize a service project at our school of religion. We will have the children compete class against class to raise the most money within a classroom and offer a pizza party (which our local pizza place has agreed to donate pizza for a classroom of children) to the winning class!

It will be a great service project for my children and they continue to learn to look beyond themselves and recognize that our purpose on this earth is to SERVE ONE ANOTHER!!

My family & I (who live in Wichita, KS) went to El Dorado,KS to help assemble the bags of food that Numana distributes!! They consist of a protien supliment powder, dried veggies, soy, and rice. They only cost 30¢ and one bag is enough to feed one starving person in Haiti for one day. I believe they were able to assemble over 500,000 bags that are probobly all ready in Haiti! And I know they are doing more next weekend.

My favorite organization that I would recommend is Samaritan’s Purse because they strive to work with the local churches to help provide a contact. Yes, we can help stop hunger, physical hunger but there is a much greater hunger that needs satisfied. The spiritual hunger that only Jesus Christ, God’s only son can quench.

I did text donations to Red Cross and Yele Haiti, the maximum ($30) that you can do, and my husband and sister (who are both on my cell plan) did the same. When my husband gets paid again, we’re going to buy supplies for hygiene kits that our church is sending to contacts in Haiti. We will also be making a decent sized cash donation to the three orphanages I’ve worked with in Haiti because I know and trust that they will do the right thing with that money.

Samaritan’s Purse is a great organization and I volunteer all year for OCC(shoebox
gospel opportunties) I feel like that they will call on the United States to do shoeboxes for Haiti. Canada has already shipped some to the missionaries down there. You can go to http://www.samaritanspurse.org for updates. God bless each one that gives. If you donate to Samaritan’s Purse 93% goes DIRECTLY to the cause.
    Thanks. Helene

I’ve been praying ever since I learned what happened in Haiti, but wasn’t sure how to contribute.

Now I’m ready to move on an idea had a while back. I’ve been saving all our family’s nut cans for ages. Now I have a huge box of them. I’m going to print up some labels for them saying ” We CAN Help Haiti and CHANGE the outcome!” Then my children and I will give them out to everyone we know,( keeping a list for weekly pick up).

In this economy, lots of people don’t feel they can afford to help much financially, but nearly all of us have coins that weigh down our purses and pockets, that could be doing some good for people in much more difficult circumstances than we are in, here in the U.S. There’s never been a better moment to Love Thy Neighbor!
