neat post, Andrea! my favorite radio personalities, Bob & Sheri, do a drive every couple of years to get sponsors for World Vision (this year they've gotten 400 out of their 500 goal). I think it is great that you can also shop from the gift catalog to provide job training for women and girls, seeds, chickens, basketballs--things we find easier to acquire.

We've sponsored a little boy through Compassion for about a year and a half. He's so smart - his letters come fairly regularly and it's obvious that he spends a great deal of time on writing them and the drawings he adds.

And it never fails that his letters arrive on a day when I've been bemoaning this or that trivial thing - I see that envelope and I am smacked upside my head about what really matters.

Thanks for this post, Andrea. I also see one of the greatest benefits of couponing to be the financial freedom to give more. The $38 or dollars or so it costs to sponsor a child goes so far in a country like Haiti, India, or Nicaragua. And all it could take for some families is a little couponing to free up that money here in US.

We also sponsor some children through Compassion. My 2 year old is so excited about her "friends" in Haiti. She reminds us to pray for them before her nap and before bed, and she colors pictures to send them with their notes. It really has been a great experience to teach her to look beyond herself- and the borders of our country- to see other kids in need. My husband and I pray that God uses this practice of giving through Compassion to grow a generous spirit and love for others in our children.

Thank you for sharing!

Amanda, that is soooo sweet!! I am excited to have the boys begin a dialogue with the kids. We'll have a new box to send off at Christmas, besides our normal Operation Christmas Child Boxes. I am excited for them to see a tangible result of faith and sacrifice.

I am just so proud of you, Andrea. To hear what God is calling you to do and to act on it are two different things. Thank you for reminding me to act instead of just hear the call :)

Andrea, your post just gave me chills! Isn't it cool to sponosor someone? The little girl we sponsor from Burkina Faso writes us letters and calls us "Mama and Papa!" *sniff*
