Phil Lempert Back to School

Are you back in the school saddle again? I am! Our oldest son started yesterday. It was bittersweet. My baby is now in 5th grade. When he got home, I wanted to know the important stuff: his teacher, friends, homework schedule, etc. He wasn’t too excited to share about any of those topics.

He wanted to tell me about his lunch!

What is it with kids and their lunch?? Is it the social aspect to it, or the actual food? I don’t know what it is, but I always try to get the boys what they want to pack in their lunch (when they do brown bag it). It involves them in the choice and ensures they will eat it! Because, as a mother, I care more about them being well fed so they can stay focused to make that grade!! Oh, and their social time is kinda important…of course :)

But, I can always use a few tips when it comes to the whole back to school lunch-time stuff! Maybe you can too.

I am working with ConAgra to promote a FREE online presentation with Supermarket Guru, Phil Lempert. The presentation will be on Wednesday, September 2 from 2p – 3p EST. Phil will be discussing lunch box alternatives, money saving shopping tips and quick family meals ideas.

You can reserve your spot by registering here. This is open to everyone, so please consider joining in! Since it’s online that means you can have loud kids in the background and no one will hear :) Also, there will be a Q&A . That is always a nice component during these presentations! Oh, and there will be ConAgra coupons given away during the presentation too!!

As a little fun thing to go along with this, I also have a great giveaway!! 3 winners will receive the following:

  • Supermarket Guru Tote filled with ConAgra Food coupons!!
  • “Healthy Wealthy and Wise” written by Phil.

To enter in this giveaway, you have several forms of entry, which are:

Leave me a comment and share what your child (or your own) favorite lunch item is. I do have several, but I would have to say the easiest for me is grabbing a frozen meal. I never thought I would have difficulty finding time to eat, but I do!

Subscribe to my feed here or daily email update here. Leave a separate comment to inform me that you have subscribed. And, of course, if you already subscribe definitely leave a comment for that too!

Share about this giveaway on the following sites and receive one entry for each. Drop a separate comment for each to let me know where you have shared it!

My kids would say either mac and cheese or grilled lunch meat and cheese for home lunches. For school packed lunch I think my oldest likes sunflower butter and jam sandwich best.

This isn’t the quickest lunch box solution, but my daughter loves ham & cheese roll-ups. A whole grain tortilla, mustard, ham and deli cheese rolled up together, then cut in half. This is a very filling sandwich option for her.

My son’s current favorite is those crushable yogurt cups from Dannon/Danimals – he gets to eat without a spoon and then smash it afterwards – what more could a 6-year old want?
