Begin to Blog: Blogging Goals

Creating goals in your blogging career!

Establishing goals are great for everything! And, don't forget your personal blog could use a few too. These can be as simple as creating memories for your family. Or, it can be as big as having your blog earnings pay your mortgage! Whatever that goal is, think about them in a SMART format.

I've created several goals for my blog.

As I mentioned while discussing Blogging Platforms, I said I would not invest anything into my site (other than my time) until I had been blogging for a year. That year passed, I created a new blog setup, changed the site's name, and you see the changes evident here today.

At the beginning of 2009, I established a goal for Mommy Snacks.net: increase my subscribers by 1,000. I achieved that goal in a month. Little things I did like offering an entry in a giveaway to subscribers helped tremendously! I see value in having subscribers (and being a subscriber) so this goal made sense.

Again, it is your blog to do with what you want. Someone once asked me “What if I just want to do XYZ? Do I really need goals?” Honestly, no. But, if you want to execute XYZ in a realistic way knowing you can achieve it by a specific date, goals aren't too bad to have! I consider it much like a schedule. Just one that focuses on the future of my blog.

Your goals will be specific for your site. Think about what you want your passion to achieve and map it out!

Action Plan: Write down five goals for your blog. Use the SMART format. Mark them on your calendar and stay committed!

Tips and tricks to starting a blog today from my experience over the past decade as a 6-figure blogger!

  1. Do you have any suggestions on what kind of giveaways to offer? I have seen everything from coupons to granola bars. I’ve been thinking about hosting a giveaway and unfortunately, I’m fairly new to blogging. BTW, I have really enjoyed your series on blogging. It’s been very helpful.
    Thanks!!!

  2. I was wondering if you could tell me how on earth to put things like the coupons.com affiliate ad in my blog? It’s mystifying me…I appreciate it!
